Set up Gboard

After you install Gboard, you can change your keyboard settings and choose your languages.

Download Gboard

  • On your Android phone or tablet, install Gboard.
  • On some Android devices, Gboard is already the default keyboard. To make sure that your device has the most recent version, check for updates.
Important: If your device uses Android 8 (Go edition), some of these steps might not work.

Set keyboard options

Change your settings
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open any app that you can type with, like Gmail or Keep.
  2. Tap where you can enter text.
  3. At the top left of the keyboard, tap Open features menu Open features menu.
  4. Tap More More and then Settings Settings.
  5. Choose which settings to turn on, such as Glide typing, Text correction and Voice typing.
Add Google Search button
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open any app that you can type with, like Gmail or Keep.
  2. Tap where you can enter text.
  3. At the top left of the keyboard, tap Open features menu Open features menu.
  4. Tap More More and then Settings Settings.
  5. Tap Search.
  6. Turn on Show 'Search and more' button.
Choose languages and layouts
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open any app that you can type with, like Gmail or Keep.
  2. Tap where you can enter text.
  3. At the top left of the keyboard, tap Open features menu Open features menu.
  4. Tap More More and then Settings Settings and then Languages.
  5. Choose the languages that you want.
  6. Select the layout that you want to use.
  7. Tap Done.
