You can create and save Gems to customize responses in Gemini Apps to your specific needs.
What you need
Gemini Advanced:
- To use Gems with a personal Google Account, learn how to upgrade to Gemini Advanced.
- To use Gems with a work or school Google Account, your Google Workspace administrator must enable access to Gemini Advanced. Learn more about using Gemini Apps with a work or school account.
Important: When you create or chat with a Gem, remember that you agreed to Google's Terms of Service, including the Prohibited Use Policy. Be sure not to violate others' rights. Use your discretion before you rely on, publish, or use content that Gemini Apps generate. Users with a work or school account that has a Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, or Gemini Education add-on are subject to different terms. Important:
- You can only create, edit, or delete custom Gems in the Gemini web app. You can use Gems in the Gemini web and mobile apps.
- For now, you can’t generate images when using a Gem.
- For now, Gems can’t be used with Gemini Live.
- The Learning coach premade Gem doesn’t currently support language learning.
Create a Gem
In the Gemini web app
- On your Android phone or tablet, go to gemini.google.com.
- At the bottom left, tap Gem manager .
- Tap New Gem.
- Enter a name for your Gem.
- Optional: Enter instructions for your Gem.
- Tips:
- Adding instructions is highly recommended.
- After a few words, you can click Use Gemini to re-write instructions to have Gemini Apps create more comprehensive instructions for most topics. It may take a few seconds for the generated instructions to appear.
- Tips:
- Optional: In the text box on the right, enter a prompt to preview the Gem.
- Tap Create.
Use a Gem in a chat
In the Gemini web app
- Go to gemini.google.com.
- At the top, tap Menu .
- Under Gems, select the Gem you want to use.
- In the text box at the bottom, enter your question or prompt.
- Tap Submit .
In the Gemini mobile apps
- On your Android phone, open Gemini .
- Next to Chats & Gems, tap More .
- Under Gems, tap the Gem you want to use.
- In the text box at the bottom, enter your question or prompt.
- Tap Submit .
Pin and unpin Gems
In the Gemini Apps menu, the Gems you have used or created most recently will appear at the top of your Gems. You can pin Gems to move them to the top.
In the Gemini web app
- Go to gemini.google.com.
- At the top, tap Menu .
- Under Gems, find the Gem you want to pin or unpin.
- Next to the Gem, tap More .
- To pin the Gem, tap Pin .
- To unpin the Gem, tap Unpin .
In the Gemini mobile apps
- On your Android phone, open Gemini .
- Next to Chats & Gems, tap More .
- Under Gems, find the Gem you want to pin or unpin.
- Next to the Gem, tap More .
- To pin the Gem, tap Pin .
- To unpin the Gem, tap Unpin .
Edit a Gem
- Go to gemini.google.com.
- At the top, tap Menu .
- Under Gems, find the Gem that you want to edit.
- Tap More Edit .
- Make edits.
- Tap Update.
Delete a Gem
- Go to gemini.google.com.
- At the top, tap Menu .
- Under Gems, find the Gem that you want to delete.
- Tap More Delete .
Why Gemini Apps might remove a Gem
Gemini Apps may remove Gems when our systems detect a possible violation of Google's Terms of Service, including the Prohibited Use Policy.
