This article is about using interest targeting in Smart campaigns that use the "Get more brand awareness with video views" goal.
With interest targeting, you can select from a list of audiences to reach people based on their interests, passions, and habits. This allows you to build awareness for your products or services.
How it works
When you create a campaign, you have two options for interest targeting: "Reach people with these specific interests" or "Keep interests as broad as possible".
Keep interests as broad as possible
Your ads can show to people who are interested in any of the interest categories. With this option, you don’t select any specific interests.
Reach people with these specific interests
You can choose from different categories of interests (such as "Avid investors" or "Coffee shop regulars"). You can add more than one interest to a campaign. After you launch your campaign, it will target users who have those specific interests. Keep in mind that as you add more interests to the campaign, your campaign will target a broader audience.
Examples
Clothing
A local boutique clothing store wants to let people know about an upcoming summer sale. The store wants to attract people who shop frequently at department stores, so they include the interests "Department store shoppers" and "Fashionista" in their targeting.
Fast food
A regional fast food chain is marketing a limited-availability ice cream sandwich. The fast food chain wants to raise awareness for the meal online by capturing the attention of online influencers and food bloggers, so they include the interests "Fast food cravers" and "Social media enthusiasts" in their targeting.
New action film
A movie studio is releasing a new action film in the summer. The studio wants to run video ads on YouTube to build excitement for the film before the release, so they include the interest "Movie lovers" in their targeting.
