Trim video is a video ad production tool that helps you create shorter variations of your longer video assets in custom ad lengths, such as 6-second bumper ads, 10-second and 15-second skippable ads and 15-second non-skippable ads. Trim video uses Google AI to simplify the process of video creation by identifying the most important frames in a long ad and turning them into trimmed-down versions. It also has simple editing features that allow you to modify the final output.

How it works
Here’s an easy guide on how to access and use Trim video.
- In your Google Ads account, click the Tools icon .
- Click the Shared library drop-down in the section menu.
- Click Asset library.
- Click + New.
- Hover over 'Video' and then click Trim video.
- In the 'Select a video' card, you can search for a video or enter the URL from either:
- YouTube
- Videos that you created in Google Ads
- Note: Your source video must be between 7 and 300 seconds long.
- A preview of your selected video is shown.
- Click Generate videos.
- Trim video will automatically generate up to four trimmed videos, which will appear in the 'Trimmed videos' card.
- To preview your trimmed videos, select a video and press play.
- To delete your trimmed videos, select the video and click the bin icon .
- To do light edits on your trimmed videos, select a video and then click the pencil icon . When you edit, you can:
- Customise which segments are featured in the final video in either of two ways:
- Enter the timestamps for the segments, or
- Drag the segments in the video layer.
- Select up to two segments in the original video.
- Click Refresh preview to review your edits.

- To save your edits, click Update video.
- After you’ve edited or deleted your trimmed videos, click Upload trimmed videos to upload them to YouTube.
- Note: Your trimmed videos must be uploaded to YouTube before they can be used in a campaign.
- Select the YouTube channel where you want to upload your trimmed videos:
- Your video ad storage channel, created by YouTube
- Your own channel
- Click Upload videos.
- Note: Your trimmed videos can be found and managed in the 'Asset library'.
- After you’ve uploaded your trimmed videos, click Create campaign on the trimmed video that you want to use in a campaign.
Add bumper ads recommendation
This feature simplifies how advertisers add bumper ads to their existing video reach campaigns or App campaigns for installs. Google AI will recommend parts of videos that require little to no editing to create bumpers. You can then either use Trim video to quickly create a bumper from an existing video or upload your own bumper.
You can find the recommendation to add bumper ads in:
- Recommendation homepage
- Overview page
- Notifications
To add bumpers using an existing video and Trim video
- On the add bumper ad recommendation card, click View.
- In the next page, click Get started next to the recommended video to be made into a bumper ad.
- Choose the 'Create a bumper ad from an existing video' option.
- Click Trim video.
- After making your adjustments, click Upload trimmed videos.
- Select the channel where you’ll upload your bumper ad.
- Select the bumper ad you’ll be using and click Add to campaign.
- Note: You can only select one bumper ad at this time.
- Choose an existing campaign or click Create a new ad group.
- Click Save.
