Create a new App asset experiment

App assets redirect your customers from your text ads to your mobile app. They can either click on your ad headline to go to your site or on the ad link to go to your app. App assets are a great way to provide customers access to your website and your app from a single ad.

Before you begin

Before you set up an App asset experiment, confirm you have the following:

  • The Package Name (Android)
  • The URL of the page within the app store where users can learn more about the app or click to install the app

If you have all of the items above, you can add an App asset experiment to the ads in your account, campaign, or ad group.

This animation demonstrates how to create an App asset experiment in Google Ads.

Create your new App asset experiment

  1. In your Google Ads account, click the Campaigns icon Campaigns Icon.
  2. Click the Campaigns drop down in the section menu.
  3. Click Experiments.
  4. Click the plus button  and then select App asset experiment.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Name your experiment.
  7. Choose the original campaign you want to test in your experiment.
  8. In the “Experiment split” section, select the “traffic” and “budget” you want to split your experiment by.
    • It’s recommended to use 50% to provide the best comparison between the original and experiment campaigns.
  9. Select “Experiment Confidence Level”.
    • It’s recommended to use 80% as it will require less time to run the experiment and it’s also a sufficient directional indicator of uplift.
  10. Add video assets to your experiment.
  11. Select up to 2 goals to measure your success metric. For example, select “Clicks” and “Increase” for the first goal.
  12. Select “Experiment Dates”.
  13. Select whether to enable sync or not.
    • It’s recommended to enable sync as changes made to your base campaign will automatically sync to the trial campaign to help ensure consistency and accuracy.
  14. Click Create experiment.
