Upgrade your call ads to responsive search ads

Call ads are being upgraded to responsive search ads to enable new features and simplify asset creation and management. The upgrade includes adding required assets, such as a landing page and a business name at the campaign or account level. After a certain period, you’ll no longer be able to create new call ads, and all newly created call ads will require a landing page. Existing call ads without a final URL won’t be automatically migrated.

This article will help you upgrade your call ads to responsive search ads, and this change won’t affect the performance of your ads or assets.


How it works

If you have call ads that need to be upgraded, you can edit your ad to ensure they can run. You can do this by uploading your business name and adding a final URL in the “Campaigns” page, or by clicking the “Notifications” icon at the top bar of your Google Ads account.


Instructions

Upload your business name

  1. In your Google Ads account, click the Campaigns icon Campaigns Icon.
  2. Click the Assets drop down in the section menu.
  3. Click Assets.
  4. Click + Business name.
  5. From the “Add to” drop-down menu, choose the level where you’d like to add the Business name: “Account” or “Campaign”.
  6. Type your business name in the “Business name” text box.
  7. Click Apply.

Add a final URL to an existing call ad

  1. In your Google Ads account, click the Campaigns icon Campaigns Icon .
  2. Click the Campaigns drop down in the section menu.
  3. Click Ads.
  4. Select the ad you’d like to update, then click Edit.
  5. Under “Make changes” to, select Call ads.
  6. Select the Edit option.
  7. In the right panel, enter a URL in the Final URL text box.
  8. Click Apply.

Create a responsive search ad

  1. In your Google Ads account, click the Campaigns icon Campaigns Icon.
  2. Click the Campaigns drop down in the section menu.
  3. Click Ads.
  4. Click the plus button Add and select Responsive search ad.
  5. Enter the final URL and display path text. As you type, a preview of your ad will appear to the right.
    • Note: The preview shows potential ads built using your assets. Not all combinations are shown, and some shortening may occur in some formats.
  6. Enter your headlines. You’ll need to enter a minimum of 3 headlines, but you can enter up to 15.
  7. Enter your descriptions. You’ll need to enter a minimum of 2 descriptions, but you can enter up to 4.
  8. Click Save.

Note: After a certain period, you’ll no longer be able to create new call ads, and all newly created call ads will require a landing page.
