Google Ads lets you target your ads to congressional districts, so you can focus your advertising within those regions. The best part is, setting up congressional district targeting is as easy as targeting your ads to any other geographic region.
As an example, if you’d like to show ads for a ballot initiative in the districts that could be affected, you can create an ad campaign that targets people who are likely to be located those districts. The congressional district boundaries are based on data from the United States 2020 census. Keep in mind that Google Ads doesn’t allow advertising for political candidates or parties where it's prohibited by law. Learn more about our political advertising policy.
This article explains how to find the districts you want to target in Google Ads using the correct codes and how to set your ads to target these districts.
Tip
Target congressional districts in bulk through Google Ads Editor and the Google Ads API.

How to format congressional district codes
Targeting a congressional district is very similar to other location targeting. Instead of entering the name of the geographic location that you’d like to target, you simply enter a district code.
The district code is formatted like this: XX-#
“XX” indicates the state's postal abbreviation, and "#" represents the congressional district number.
For example, if you target the 34th district in California, enter: CA-34
For single-digit district numbers, enter the digit without a zero. For example, if you target the 9th district in California, enter: CA-9
Here are a few more examples of correct and incorrect entries:
- Correct: AL-4, CA-20
- Incorrect: AL-04, California-20
