Change the payments profile for your client account

You might need to change the payment profile for your client account to a new one when an advertiser changes or leaves agencies. This process is called a billing transfer. During a billing transfer, all the accounts under the previous payments profile might need to move to a new paying manager account.

This article will help you change the payment profile for your client account.

If the client account stays within your manager account hierarchy and the new payments profile is already linked to your manager account, then you can change the payments profile for your client accounts following the instructions below.
If the client account moves to an external manager account hierarchy (such as a different agency), you can initiate the account transfer by following the steps outlined here.

Change the payment profile for your client account

For subtitles in your language, turn on YouTube captions. Select the settings icon Image of YouTube settings icon at the bottom of the video player, then select 'Subtitles/CC' and choose your language.


Before you begin

  1. Log in to your current paying manager account with admin, standard or billing-only access. Next, open your client account to change the payments profile.
  2. Check if the current paying manager account is linked to both the current and the new payments profile in the 'Payments profiles' page. Learn more about payments profile link types and permission.
  3. To set up a billing transfer when you don’t have the new payments profile linked, you can:
Note: The primary contact listed in the payments profile must approve any changes made to the payments profile, including linking. Changes can also be approved by a person using an email address with the same company’s domain name (for example, person@).

Instructions

Steps to change the payments profile

  1. In your Google Ads manager account, from the page menu on the left, click Accounts Accounts icon..
  2. Click Budgets.
  3. From the 'Payments account' column, select a client account to edit.
  4. Click Billing transfers, then click the pencil icon and select Change who pays.
    • If the icon appears grey, take the following actions:
      • Make sure that you're logged in as the account’s paying manager. You can identify the paying manager on the client account’s 'Billing settings' page.
      • Make sure that both the current and the new payments profile are linked to the paying manager.
  5. Choose a date for the transfer to go into effect, or select As soon as possible.
  6. Next to 'Billing configuration', choose Select existing billing setup or Create new billing setup.
    • Select existing billing setup: A new window will open where you can select a new billing setup. You can change the payments profile by selecting a billing setup with your desired payments profile.
      • Note: Only payments profiles that are already linked to the manager account will be shown.
    • Create new billing setup: You can search for a new payments profile that is already linked your manager account.
  7. Click Save and continue.
  8. On the 'Budget setup' page, enter your budget details.
  9. Click Save and finish.
