You can adjust the brightness of your Nest Learning Thermostat display from the Quick View menu.
Note: We’ve started to roll out a software update to optimize how your Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) automatically adjusts screen brightness to deliver improved readability based on your environment. We’ve also added a new manual brightness adjustment to give you more control. All Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) devices will get this update automatically in the coming weeks.
Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen)
- On your Nest thermostat, press the display towards the wall to open the Quick View menu.
- Choose Settings

- Turn the ring to scroll through the different options and press the display to choose Device Settings.
- Turn the ring to scroll through the different options. Press the display to choose Display Brightness.
- Select Auto to automatically adjust your screen’s brightness based on the surrounding environment.
- Select Manual to customize the brightness of your thermostat by turning the dial up or down.
- Press the display to save your setting.
Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen)
- On your thermostat, press the ring to open the Quick View menu.
- Choose Settings
- Turn the ring to scroll through the different options. Press the ring to choose Brightness.
- Press the ring to adjust the brightness of the Nest Learning thermostat’s display. You can select from Low, Medium, or High or Auto.
Note: If you have a nest Thermostat E, brightness is adjusted automatically.
