When you set up Google Nest Protect for the first time it scans for available Wi-Fi networks. If your Wi-Fi network isn’t showing up on the list of available networks, try these steps:
- Move Nest Protect closer to the Wi-Fi router or access point.
This will ensure it’s within range of your Wi-Fi network. If you’ve already installed it, temporarily move your Protect closer to your router while you connect it to Wi-Fi. But don’t put it too close. At least 4 feet away is best. Too close to the router can cause connection issues as well. - Hidden Wi-Fi networks won’t appear in the list.
Scroll down to the bottom of the Wi-Fi networks list on the setup screen in the app and select Other network. Then type in your network name and password. For complete instructions, go to Connect to a hidden Wi-Fi network - Make sure the network is 2.4GHz
Nest Protect connects to the Internet using the 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz networks and won’t be able to find your network if it’s set up to be in 5GHz-only mode.
Check the documentation that came with your router or wireless access point to make sure that it’s not using 5GHz only. Change the router settings to broadcast 5GHz and 2.4GHz if needed.
