Use Attention Alerts with Google Pixel Buds

Note: Not available on Google Pixel Buds A-Series.

How to use Attention Alerts | Google Pixel Buds

When you have headphones on, you might miss important things happening around you. Attention Alerts is an experimental feature on Pixel Buds using AI technology that aims to detect a few important sounds and makes you aware of when they happen. The detection will happen locally on your device and data is not collected by Google.

Currently, the available sounds are baby crying, dog barking, and emergency vehicle siren. When Attention Alerts is on and you are listening to audio with both earbuds in, your audio volume will lower for a moment and a chime will play when your earbuds detect one of the supported sounds.* After a few seconds, your volume will return to normal. Attention Alerts will not re-trigger within 1 minute of the same sound.

Note: Enabling this feature may shorten the battery life of your earbuds.

  1. On a Pixel phone with Android 10+:  Go to your phone’s Settings and then Connected devices and then Pixel Bud's settings Settings .
On other Android devices running Android 6.0 or newer: Open the Google Pixel Buds app Pixel Buds.
  2. Tap Sound.
  3. Scroll down to the Experimental section to expand Attention Alerts and tap the toggle button next to the sound you want to turn alerts off or on for.

Note: To send us feedback on this feature, go to the “More settings” section and tap Send feedback.

When on-head detection is enabled, Attention Alerts will only trigger when both earbuds are in ear and while you are listening to audio.

When on-head detection is disabled, Attention Alerts will trigger regardless of which earbud(s) is worn and while you are listening to audio.

*Requires a device running Android 6.0 or newer. Attention Alerts may not detect all instances of supported alerts, and similar sounds may be mistaken for alerts. Attention Alerts should not be relied upon in circumstances that have potentially serious consequences, such as when personal injury or property damage may result. Sound features improve your audio experience but shorten the battery life of your earbuds.
