You can use 2 apps at the same time on your Pixel Tablet. In split screen mode, you can adjust the size and position of the apps or drag text or images between compatible apps to multitask. You can also save an app pair for quick access to your favorite apps to use in split screen mode.
Important: Some of these steps work only on Android 15 and up. Learn how to update your Android version.
How to use multiple apps on your Pixel Tablet
Enter split screen mode from an open app
Enter split screen from Overview
- While using an app, swipe up slowly from the bottom of the Home screen to enter Overview.
- Lift your finger when your most recent app appears.
- Important: If you use 3-button navigation, tap Overview

- Tap the second app you want to open.

Split Enter split screen from Taskbar
- Open any app.
- Swipe up slowly from the bottom of the screen until the Taskbar displays.
- Tap and drag an app icon from the Taskbar to either side of your screen to enter split screen.
Tip: You can also enter split screen from All Apps:
- On your Taskbar, tap Action

- Touch and hold an app icon.
- Tap Split
Enter split screen mode from your Home screen
- On your Home screen, touch and hold an app icon.
- Tap Split
- Tap the second app you want to open.
Change the size and position of apps in split screen
- To change the size of each app, drag the middle of the divider left or right.
- To swap the position of your apps, double tap the middle of the divider.
Save an app pair
You can save an app pair to quickly access two apps in split screen mode.
- With two apps open in split screen mode, swipe up and hold to open Overview.
- Below the two apps, tap Save app pair

- Once you save them, you can view and launch your app pair on the Home screen.
Tip: You can move the app pair around your Home screen and add it to the Taskbar.
Exit split screen on your Pixel Tablet
To close both apps in split screen mode:
- Gesture navigation: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to return to your Home screen.
- 3-button navigation: Tap Home
