Watermark and test app requirements for the Families Self-Certified Ads SDK Program

If you are only using an in-house ads solution, then this certification is not applicable to you.

Google is focused on providing a great experience for families on Google Play and wants to help make sure that any ads served to children are appropriate and compliant with our policies. Review our Families policy in the Developer Policy Center.

The ads SDKs listed here have self-certified their compliance with Play’s Families Self-Certified Ads SDK Program requirements.

If you would like to be considered for this program, please fill out this interest form. Your application will be “under review” until you receive a decision from us. If your application has not been accepted you will receive a rejection notice with the reason for our decision. Once a decision has been made, you will not be allowed to reapply for a period of three (3) months. For these reasons, we strongly recommend that you carefully review your application before submitting it for consideration. Until an ad SDK has been added to this list, it will not be considered certified.

Watermarks

Self-certified ads SDKs are required to have a mechanism (such as a visual watermark) that clearly identifies ad creatives coming from your inventory.

Watermark requirements

  • Your watermark must easily be identifiable (using text, an image, or a third-party icon, URL, or redirect page, for example) so reviewers can verify that ad creatives are served from your inventory.
  • Your watermark must be on all ad creatives from your inventory. A test app is submitted as part of the self-certification process. The inventory in the test app must be the same or a mirror of your ad inventory for a live app.

Test app for self-certification

As part of the self-certification process, we require that you submit a test app that uses your ads SDK to retrieve and display ads. You may need to turn off certain configurations for monetization, tracking, and analysis for the inventory used by the test app.

Test app requirements

  • Your test app must be submitted as a fully-built and executable Android APK meant to run on a phone form factor.
  • It must use the latest released, or soon to be released version of the ads SDK that adheres to Google Play’s policies.
  • It must use all of the features of your ads SDK including calling your ads SDK to retrieve and display ads.
  • It must have full access to all live/serving ad inventories on the network via creatives requested through the test app. It can not be restricted by geolocation.
  • If your inventory is for a mixed audience, your test app must be capable of differentiating between requests for ad creatives from full inventory and the inventory suitable for kids or all age groups.
  • It cannot be restricted to specific ads within the inventory unless it is controlled by the neutral age screen.
