How to change your Google Play country

Your Google Play country or region determines what content you find in the Store and in apps. The apps, games and other content in the Store and in apps can vary by country or region.

  • You can only change your Google Play country or region annually. After you initially set up or change your Google Play country or region, you must wait 12 months before you can make another change.
  • To set up a new country or region, you must be in that location and have a payment method from the new country or region.
  • If you're a member of a Google family group, you can't change your Google Play country or region.

What happens when you change your Google Play country

  • When you change your country or region, your Google Play balance from your old country or region becomes unusable in your new country or region.
  • You may lose access to some books, movies, TV shows, games and apps.
  • Your current subscriptions will remain active on your old payment profile unless the subscription is cancelled.
  • To use the subscription in your new country, with your new payment profile, cancel your existing subscription and subscribe to services or content.

Tips:

  • Some subscriptions may not be available in your new country or region.
  • Developers may also cancel your subscription if they don't offer that subscription in your new country or region.

Change your Google Play country

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. At the top right, tap the profile icon.
  3. Tap Settings and then General and then Account and device preferences and then Country and profiles.
  4. Tap the country where you want to add an account.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to add a payment method for that country.
Tip: Your profile can take up to 48 hours to update.
Change existing country or region profiles
  1. On your Android device, open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. At the top right, tap the profile icon.
  3. Tap Settings and then General and then Account preferences and then Country and profiles.
  4. To change countries, tap the name of the one that you want to change to.
Tip: Your profile can take up to 48 hours to update.
I can't find an option to add or change my Google Play country

You may not find this option if:

  • You've changed your country or region within the last year.
  • You aren't currently located in a new country or region.
  • You're a member of a Google family.

Fix your Google Play country update issues

If you can't change your Google Play country or can’t find the option to, try the following:

Update your Play country for Google family
Manage payment profile
  1. Sign in to Google Pay.
  2. At the top, click Settings.
  3. Under 'Payments profile', find 'Country/Region'.
    • This section displays your current Play country.
  4. If it’s incorrect, create a new profile for your country.

Tip: If you recently changed your country, wait at least 48 hours for the change to take effect.

Clear your cache and data
  1. On your phone or tablet, open the Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps and then See all {n} apps.
  3. To find the Google Play Store Google Play, you can scroll down. You can also tap the Search icon at the top right and search for the app.
  4. Tap Storage and cache and then Clear cache.
  5. Tap Clear storage and then Delete.
Make sure that your app is updated
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. At the top right, tap the profile icon.
  3. Tap Settings and then About and then Update Play Store.
    • The app will update or notify you that your version is up to date.

More troubleshooting steps

If you tried all the steps above and it’s been more than 24 hours, try these troubleshooting steps.

Clear cache and data from Google Play services
  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps and then See all {n} apps.
  3. To find the 'Google Play services' app, you can scroll down. You can also tap the search icon at the top right and search for the app.
  4. Tap Google Play Services and then Storage and cache and then Clear cache.
  5. Tap Clear storage and then Clear all data and then Delete.
Clear cache and data from Download Manager
  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps and then See all {n} apps.
  3. To find the 'Download Manager' app, you can scroll down. You can also tap the search icon at the top right and search for the app.
  4. Tap Download Manager and then Storage and cache and then Clear cache.
  1. Tap Clear storage and then Clear all data and then Delete.
Uninstall and reinstall Play Store updates
  1. Make sure that you’re connected to a reliable Wi-Fi connection.
  2. On your device’s home or app screen, find the Play Store app Google Play.
  3. Touch and hold the Play Store app Google Play.
  4. Tap App info Info.
  5. At the top, tap More More and then Uninstall updates.
  6. If you’re asked to change the Play Store app back to the factory version, tap OK.
Remove and re-add your Google Account

When you remove your account, some information is removed from your device. Make sure that you back up any important information before you complete this step.

What happens when you change countries

What happens to your Google Play balance when you change countries

Your Google Play balance is linked to your Google Play country. If you have Google Play balance and change countries, you won’t be able to use that balance in your new country.

Your balance will still be linked to your old country. If you change back to your old country, you will be able to use it again.

What happens to your Google Play Points when you change countries
Your Google Play Points are linked to your Google Play country. When you change countries, you'll lose all points and your level will not carry over to your new country.
Google Play Pass

Your Google Play Pass subscription will continue to auto-renew. 

If Play Pass is available in your new country: your access will remain the same.

If Play Pass isn't available: you’ll still have access to apps installed on your device, but you won’t be able to browse or install additional Play Pass apps. Learn how to manage your Google Play Pass subscription.

Tip: Some apps won't be available in certain countries.
