Change your Gmail background

To change the background in Gmail, you can pick a theme. For example, you can change the theme from light to dark. When you use Gmail on your computer, you have additional theme options, such as personal photos from Google Photos.

Change the background theme

Important: Dark theme is available in Android 10 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app .
2. In the top left, tap Menu .
3. Tap Settings General settings.
4. Tap Theme.
5. Choose light, dark or system default.
