Format your messages

To change the appearance of your Gmail messages, use formatting options.

Format your message

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. At the top left, click Compose.
  3. At the bottom of the message, click Formatting options .

Turn plain text mode on or off

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. At the top left, click Compose.
  3. At the bottom of the message, click More options and then Plain text mode.

Insert links in your message

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. At the top left, click Compose.
  3. Enter your message.
  4. Highlight the text where you want to insert the link.
  5. At the bottom, click Insert Insert link.
    • You can also press Ctrl + K.
  6. At the bottom field, paste the URL you want to use.
  7. Click Apply.

Change your default text style

You can select a text style that applies to all new emails you write.

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. At the top right, click Settings Settings and then See all settings.
  3. Scroll down to the "Default text style" section.
  4. Change the text in the box to be the style you want for your emails.
  5. At the bottom of the page, click Save Changes.
