What does Google do with my data?

Where will my map content be?

If used, your map content may be displayed in Google Maps, Google Earth, and/or Google Search. Your content may also be available through Google Maps API and other APIs.

What happens to my data after I share it?

We review your uploaded data and identify anything that needs to be added to or modified on our map.  For example, your data may have roads or addresses missing from our map or a road with a new name. During evaluation, we may cross-reference your data against other sources like satellite imagery or Street View.

For more information on data governance, visit our page on data security and compliance at Google.

How long will it take for my content to show on Google's services?

Expectations:  We aspire to processing all data within 30 days of your upload.  However, we can not guarantee processing times.  There are many factors that affect publishing of the data and we run multiple quality checks and do not publish all the data we receive. To accelerate processing, please follow our content requirements

Prioritization:  We prioritize by feature type and process addresses, roads, points of interest and political data first.  Though we do our best to process other data types outside of these four, they often are not within the 30 day turn around time. We then prioritize by region or current global issues.  For example, during COVID we prioritized COVID testing centers and hospitals and other feature types did not make the 30 day turn around time.
