Create a list of places

In Google Maps, you can create a list of places, like your favorite places or places you want to visit.

Make a new list
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap You Save place.
  3. Tap New list.
  4. Enter a name and description.
  5. Tap Save.
Save a place to a list
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Search for a place or tap it on the map.
  3. At the bottom, tap the place's name or address.
  4. Tap Save.
  5. Choose a list. To create a new list, tap New list Plus.
Add a note to a place in a list
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap You Save place.
  3. Tap a list.
  4. Find a place.
  5. Tap Add a note about this place.
  6. Add your note and then Save.

Tip: Notes can be up to 4,000 characters.

Find your lists
To find your lists:
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app Maps
  2. Tap You Save place.
Edit or delete a list
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap You Save place.
  3. Next to the list you want to edit or delete, tap More and then choose an option:
    • Edit list: Change your list name, description, icon, or places.
    • Delete list: Remove your list.
  4. When you’re done, on the top right, tap Save.
Hide or show lists
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap You Save place.
  3. Next to the list you want to hide or show on the main map, tap More More and then choose an option:

      • Hide on your map: Hide your saved places.
      • Show on your map: Show your saved places.
Share lists
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap You Save place.
  3. Open the list you want to share.
  4. Tap Share  .
    • If you want others to collaborate on the list, tap Invite collaborators instead.

Anyone who can view your lists can also view the names and profile pictures of people who have joined the list. They can also view who has added or edited places and notes on the list.

Change who can edit your shared lists

Here's how to re-share a list's edit link or add more editors:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap You Save place.
  3. Tap More More and then Sharing options.
  4. Under "Edit options," tap Invite editors.
  5. Choose who to share the link with.

To remove all current editors, turn editing off:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap You Save place.
  3. Next to the list, tap More More and then Sharing options.
  4. Under "Edit options," turn off Let others edit your list.
Save a list

If you save a list made by someone else, their list places will show up in "Your places". The places will also appear on your main map in Google Maps unless you hide the list.

Save a list using a link

  1. Tap on the link you received to open it.
  2. Tap Save list. This list will now be added to the group of lists you saved.

Tip: To leave a list someone shared with you, tap Saved.

Customize your list icon

Important: You can’t edit the icons for these default lists:

  • Favorites
  • Want to go
  • Starred places
  • Labeled
  • Travel plans

You can use custom icons for your Google Maps lists.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap You Save place.
  3. Under "Your lists," find the list you want to update.
  4. Next to the list, tap More  and then Edit list.
  5. On the "Edit list" page, tap Edit icon.
  6. Select your desired icon.
  7. At the top right, tap Save.

Export your saved lists

  1. Go to takeout.google.com.
  2. Make sure “Saved” is checked in “Create A New Export.”
  3. Tap Next Step.
  4. Select a destination, frequency, and file format.
  5. Click Create Export.
