If you chat with your friends and family on iMessage, you can use Google Maps to show them where you are.
Step 1: Open a conversation
Important: To send MMS messages, iMessage needs your phone number. If you’re asked, tap Settings to add your number.
- From your iPhone or iPad Home screen, find iMessage.

Open an existing conversation, or go to the top right and tap New Message .
Step 2: Add Google Maps to iMessage
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Apps .
- In the bottom left, tap the app drawer .
- Tap Add +.
- In the top right, tap Manage.
- Next to 'Google Maps', turn the switch on. If you can’t see Google Maps, download the Google Maps app.
- In the top right, tap Done.
Step 3: Send your location
Important: To stop location sharing, on the thumbnail, tap Stop.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Apps .
- In the bottom left, tap the app drawer .
- Tap Google Maps.
- Choose how you want to share your location.
- To share your real-time location: Select Share your real time location for 1 hour. You can extend the amount of time to share your location up to three days.
- To share only your current location: Select Send your current location.
- Tap send .
- Tap the Up arrow.
Tip: If you choose to share your real-time location, you must open the Google Maps app to update your location.
