Use Google Maps on your Apple Watch

To get a seamless navigation between your phone and watch, install Google Maps on your Apple Watch.

On your watch, you can also navigate to existing shortcuts, get step-by-step directions, and get the current ETA for your commute.

To use Google Maps on your watch, make sure your devices have:

  • WatchOS 5 or greater
  • iOS 10 or greater
  • Bluetooth enabled

Set up Google Maps on your Apple Watch

Turn on location services

Important: To use Google Maps on your watch, turn on the location services.

  1. On your iPhone, tap Settings and then Privacy and then Location Services and then Google Maps.
  2. Tap Only While Using the App or Always Allow.

Add or edit Home, Work, & other shortcuts

  1. On your Apple Watch, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap HomeWork, or Edit shortcuts.
  3. On your iPhone, follow the on-screen instructions to set up your Home or Work or add a shortcut.

  1. On your Apple Watch, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap a shortcut. You’ll get step-by-step directions on your watch.

You can also open the route on your phone once you start navigation on your Apple Watch. 

  1. On your iPhone, open the Google Maps app Maps
  2. Tap Start Start.

Navigate to a new destination

For new destinations, you can get step-by-step directions on your Apple Watch when you start the navigation on your phone

  1. On your iPhone, start your navigation.
  2. On your Apple Watch, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  3. Under “Current trip” tap the ETA.

Set travel mode on your watch

  1. On your Apple Watch, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Scroll down and tap Set travel mode.
  3. Choose your travel mode.
