How to fix Maps when it crashes

If the Google Maps app on your phone or tablet crashes or has other issues that affect your experience on Maps, try the following steps:

  • Update Google Maps.
  • Clear storage in the Settings app on your device.

Update Google Maps

To use the most recent app features, download the latest version of the Google Maps app.

If you're signed in to your Google Account, update the Google Maps app directly from the Play Store.

If you’re not signed in to your Google Account:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, go to the Maps app in the Play store.
  2. Tap Open in Play store app.
    • Avoid tapping "install" or you'll be redirected to a sign-in screen that doesn't allow skipping.
  3. You'll be prompted to sign in.
  4. At the top right, tap More More and then Updates.
  5. Find "Map - Navigate & Explore", then tap Update.

Clear the app's cache & data

Start here, then finish the process on your device.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Settings app .
  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. Follow the steps on your device to find the Maps app.
  4. After you select the app, storage & cache options should be available.
  • Clear cache: Deletes temporary data.
  • Clear data storage: Permanently deletes all app data.

  1. Go to device Settings and then Apps.
  2. Select Maps app.
  3. Tap Storage and then Clear data.

LG phones

  1. Go to Settings and then Apps.
  2. Select Maps app.
  3. Tap Storage and then Clear data.

Huawei phones

  1. ​​​​​​​Go to device Settings and then Apps.
  2. Tap on Apps again.
  3. Select Maps app.
  4. Tap Storage and then Clear data.

Oppo phones

  1. Go to device Settings and then App Management.
  2. Tap Show system processes.
  3. Select Maps app.
  4. Tap Storage and then Clear data.

Xiaomi phones

  1. Go to device Settings and then Apps.
  2. Open "Manage apps" tab.
  3. Select Maps app.
  4. Tap Storage and then Clear data.

Vivo phones

  1. Go to device Settings and then Application Manager.
  2. Select All in tab's menu and choose Maps app.
  3. Tap Clear data.

Pixel phones

  1. Go to device Settings and then Apps & notifications.
  2. Tap See all apps and then Maps and then Storage and cache and then Clear cache.
