Duo and Meet have combined into a new Meet app. Meet (original) users can download the new app.

Lock video during a Google Meet meeting

Important: To use Video Lock, you must first turn on host management.

As a meeting host or co-host, you can lock all participants' cameras so that no one can turn on their video. Once you turn off Video Lock, everyone can use their video again. Video Lock doesn’t apply to you or other meeting co-hosts. You can only set Video Lock from your computer or iOS device, but lock settings apply to all devices.

Once a participant's video is locked, they can't present or share their screen. If they need to share their screen, you must promote them to co-host.

Lock participants' video

Important: When you turn on Video Lock, mobile participants may be removed from the meeting if their device doesn’t have:

  • The most updated version of the Meet or Gmail app
  • Android OS version M or newer
  • iOS version 12 or newer

Once you turn off Video Lock, removed participants can rejoin.

Lock participants' video

  1. During the meeting, at the bottom right, click Host controls .
  2. From the side panel that opens, toggle Turn on their video on or off.

Tip: After you turn off Video Lock, participants must manually turn on their cameras.
