Raise your hand to speak

You can virtually raise your hand in a video meeting to:

  • Let others know you have a question.
  • Indicate that you want to speak.

  • At the bottom of the meeting, click Hand raise Hand Raise.

Pin a meeting participant or presentation

You can pin up to 3 participants and presentations at the same time.

Important:
  • You can't pin in Companion mode. Learn more about Companion mode.
  • You can only pin when you join with full audio and video.
  • If you use a sign language interpreter, pin the presentation and interpreter.

Pin up to 3 participants or presentations

If the participants or presentations are on the layout:

  1. In the meeting, hover over a tile and click Pin .
  2. Optional: To unpin, hover over the tile and click Unpin .

If the participants aren't on the layout:

  1. At the bottom right of the meeting, click People People Tab.
  2. Next to the meeting participant or presentation, click Pin .
  3. Optional: To unpin, hover over the tile and click Unpin .

Tip: When you pin the maximum number of participants and presentations, you get a prompt.

Reverse your camera on a mobile device

On the Meet app, in a video meeting, you can reverse the camera on your mobile device. For example, you can show a whiteboard or notes in the room you're in.

  1. On your mobile device, open the Meet app .
  2. Join a video meeting.
  3. At the top right, tap Switch camera Flip camera.

Share meeting info

To give your guests important event info, you can add meeting details, documents, spreadsheets, notes, and other files directly to an event.

  1. Join a Meet video meeting.
  2. At the bottom right, click Meeting details  and then Copy joining info Content copy.
  3. Paste the meeting details in an event, email, chat, or other app.
  4. Click Send.

Tips for group interactions

Hold a Q&A session

You can use Q&A to submit and upvote questions in a video meeting.

When you use Q&A, you don't disrupt the flow of the meeting or presentation. The moderator gets a report of all questions after the meeting.

Ask a question
  1. In a meeting, at the bottom right, click Activities  and then Questions.
  2. At the bottom right, click Ask a question.
  3. Enter your question.
  4. Click Post.
    • To ask your question anonymously, select Post Anonymously.
Find, upvote, or delete a question
  • In a meeting, at the bottom right, click Activities  and then Questions. Then:
    • To view everyone's questions, click All questions.
    • To view only your questions, click My questions.
    • To sort questions by popularity or chronologically, next to "Popular," click Down  and then an option.
    • To upvote a question, on the question, click Upvote .
    • To delete a question, on the question, click Delete .

Use a virtual whiteboard to brainstorm

To brainstorm with others on a virtual whiteboard, you can start or open a jam with Google Jamboard in a video meeting. You can also collaborate with other participants in real-time with the Miro add-on. Miro is a third-party whiteboard app. Learn how to collaborate with Miro on Google Meet.

Start or open a Jamboard in a meeting
  1. In a meeting, at the bottom right, click Activities  and then Whiteboarding.
  2. Select an option:
    • To create a Jamboard, click Start a new whiteboard.
    • To open a Jamboard, click Choose from Drive.

Tip: The Jamboard opens in a new tab. A link to the Jamboard is shared in the meeting chat.

Create or vote in a poll

Use a poll to:

  • Identify topics that need more discussion.
  • Get real-time feedback.

The moderator gets an email report with the answers and names of all participants after the meeting.

Create a poll (for moderators)
  1. In a meeting, at the bottom right, click  Activities  and then Polls.
  2. Click Start a poll.
  3. Enter a question and options.
    • Tip: To let users respond anonymously, before you save or launch the poll, turn on Responses appear with names .
  4. Select one:
    • To post your poll, click Launch.
    • To save your poll to launch later, click Save.
  5. To vote in your own poll, select an option and then Vote.
Tips:
  • Polls save for the duration of the meeting. Afterwards, polls delete.
  • Moderators get a poll report in their email at the end of the meeting.

  1. In a meeting, at the bottom right, click Activities  and then Polls.
  2. Pick your response.
  3. Click Vote.

Tip: After you vote, you cannot change your response.

Use breakout rooms

If the moderator allows, you can join a breakout room during a meeting and have a discussion in a smaller group.

Tips:
  • After non-Google users join the main meeting, you can add them to a breakout room as anonymous users.
  • You can’t add non-Google users to breakout rooms through Google Calendar.
  • You can’t live stream or record breakout rooms.

Add breakout rooms to a Calendar event

For a new event:

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. Create an event.
  3. Click Add Google Meet video conferencing.
  4. Add participants.
  5. Click Change conference settings .
  6. On the left, click Breakout rooms .
  7. Select the number of breakout rooms, then either: 
    • Drag participants into a different room.
    • Enter names directly into a room.
    • To randomly mix the groups, click Shuffle .
  8. Click Save.

For an event that already exists:

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. Open an event.
  3. Click Edit event .
  4. Under "Event Details," click Change conference settings .
  5. On the left, click Breakout rooms .
  6. Select the number of breakout rooms, then either:
    • Drag participants into a different room.
    • Enter names directly into a room.
    • To randomly mix the groups, click Shuffle .
  7. Click Save.

Create breakout rooms in a meeting

  1. In a meeting, at the bottom right, click  Activities  and then Breakout rooms.
    • Tip: In a work or school account, admins can control who can create a breakout room.
  2. Select the number of breakout rooms. You can create up to 100 breakout rooms in a call.
  3. Participants are distributed across the rooms. To manually move participants into rooms, you can:
    • Drag participants into a different room.
    • Enter names directly into a room.
    • To randomly mix the groups, click Shuffle .
  4. At the bottom right, click Open rooms.

Live stream a video meeting

Live stream with these Workspace editions

To present to an audience of 250 participants, use Meet or Calendar to create a live stream event. You can also add up to 100,000 view-only guests. You can’t display or hear view-only guests in the meeting. They can’t present, record, or control the stream.

Create a live stream event
  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. Click Create and then Event and then More options.
  3. Add the event details, like date, time, and description.
  4. Add the guests that can fully participate in the video meeting.
    • You can add people from other organizations and trusted domains.
    • Only people in your organization can record and control live streaming.
  5. Next to "Join with Google Meet," click Down  and then Add live stream.
  6. To confirm, click Add live stream.
  7. Click Save and then Send.

Tip: To start the live stream, during the meeting, at the bottom right, select  Activities  and then  Live streaming and then Start streaming.

Track attendance in a video meeting

Track attendance with these Workspace editions

Use attendance reports to keep track of who attended your meeting and for how long. The organizer receives the attendance report in their email after the meeting. The attendance report is a Google Sheet with participant names, emails, and the length of time they stayed on the call.

  1. At the bottom, click Host controls .
  2. In the side panel, turn on Attendance tracking.

For a new event:

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. Create a new event.
  3. Click Add Google Meet video conferencing.
  4. On the right, click Change conference settings .
  5. Select Attendance tracking and then Save.

For a meeting that already exists:

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. Select a meeting and then Edit event .
  3. Under the event details, click Change conference settings .
  4. Click Attendance tracking and then Save.
