Summary
As we make it easier for merchants to understand the traffic coming by way of their shopping content on Google, we're publishing additional information about how that conversion data will be used. When merchants opt in to share their conversion data with Merchant Center, we take the privacy and security of that information seriously.
What is Shopping conversion data?
Conversion data is data about user actions on websites or apps. For example, this could be a purchase on a website, a form submission, an app install or an in-app purchase.
Merchants have the option to opt in to sharing this information about the activity on their own sites to unlock new and valuable insights on how their products are performing on Google's organic experiences.
How does Shopping use conversion data?
Google uses conversion event data for performance reporting in your Merchant Center account, optimising shopping search experiences and improving Google products and services.
A few examples of how Google might use your conversion data when you agree to share it with us:
- Google uses your conversion events to analyse and provide useful reports and insights about your performance to help you make informed decisions and improve your performance.
- Google may also use your conversion event data to optimise how your listings appear on Google surfaces, including things like showing annotations on your offers based on your conversion data in a privacy-safe way.
- Google may use conversion event data in a privacy-safe way for the overall benefit of Shopping merchants. For example, we may use conversion event data to improve Google products and services. Google may publish conversion data pooled across many merchants as a resource for the overall benefit of merchants.
As a reminder, please ensure that you are providing users with clear and comprehensive information about the data that you collect on your apps and are getting consent for that collection where legally required.
