About suspicious message alerts

Suspicious message alerts warn you when a message you receive is similar to messages that were used to steal personal information. Alerts work across your phone and are supported on popular messaging apps.

How it works

Your phone privately processes and protects message content completely on-device. Your messages are not sent to a server. Your messages aren’t shared with any apps, websites, or companies, including Google.

Report suspicious messages

When a suspicious message is detected, you’ll get a warning message. To help protect others, you can let Google know that the message is indeed suspicious by tapping Report. When you report a message to Google, the text of the message is shared with and stored by Google. If the sender isn’t one of your Contacts, an identifier for the sender is shared. Your report is not linked to you or to identifiers like your name or phone number.

Turn off suspicious message alerts

You can turn off suspicious message alerts anytime in Settings:

1. Open your device's Settings app.
2. Tap Security Advanced settings.
3. Tap Suspicious message alerts. You may have to select your personal or work profile.
4. Switch off “Show alerts.”
