Get interactive messages from businesses

You can receive interactive messages with rich media, like photos and videos, from businesses. For example, an airline could send you a message with your boarding pass.

Have interactive conversations with businesses

To have an interactive conversation with a business, you need to turn on RCS chats.

If your phone and operator can use RCS, the option will show in your advanced settings.

Tip: Availability varies and operator charges may apply. Contact your operator for details.

  1. Open Google Messages .
  2. Tap your profile photo or icon and then Google Messages settings.
  3. Tap RCS chats and then Turn on RCS chats.
  • Tip: If you can't find 'RCS chats', tap Chat features.

If you can't find this option, it may not be available for your phone or operator.

Troubleshoot: Conversation not available

If a business is unavailable for a conversation, it may be because:

  • You don't have Google Messages. From Google Play, download the app.
  • If RCS chats isn't turned on, turn on RCS chats.
  • The business or service that you're trying to interact with isn't supported in the country or region that you're in or by your operator at this time.

Learn about RCS conversations with verified businesses

When a business uses RCS chats, Google or other third-party providers can verify the business's identity. If the business is verified, it will say 'verified' or have a verified badge Verified.

When you message the business, they'll receive a read receipt for each of their messages that you read. Learn more about how to turn off read receipts.

Verified RCS conversations between businesses and users are not end-to-end encrypted. These conversations are managed by businesses, messaging solution providers and, in some cases, operators. The entities that operate RCS business conversations and, in some cases, operators have access to message content for message delivery and other purposes. Google also has access to RBM message content to apply spam and abuse protections.
