UPI International

 

This lets you pay at  shops in other countries with Google Pay.

Turn on UPI International

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Tap Scan QR code.
  3. Scan the shop’s QR code.
  4. Enter the money you owe in the right foreign currency.
  5. Pick the bank account you want to pay from.
  • This example is in Indian rupees. It includes the cost to change money and the bank’s fee. See below for more info.
    A screen appears to activate "UPI International."
  1. Tap Activate UPI International.
  • You can only use this for bank accounts that support UPI International.

Tip: You can only use this for 7 days, but you can turn it on again.

Make international payments

Important: Paying in other countries is like paying in India. The bank charges money to change to Indian rupees.

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Tap Scan QR code.
  3. Scan the international merchant’s QR code.
  4. Enter the money you owe in foreign currency.

    Enter the amount you have to pay.
  5. Pick the bank account you want to pay from.

 Pay with the bank account of your choice.

  • In this example, you'll pay in Indian rupees. This includes the cost to change money and the bank's fee. See below for more details.
  1. To finish, enter the UPI PIN.

Changing money & bank fees

Banks and the UPI group set the cost to change money. Banks charge a fee to change the money to Indian rupees.

Check your bank for information about changing money and bank fees.

You can pay in these countries:

  • Bhutan
  • Mauritius
  • Nepal
  • Singapore
  • Sri Lanka
  • UAE

Pay online in other countries

You can turn on UPI International by:

  • Using the “Activate UPI International” section
  • Scanning the international QR code

To pay with a QR code in another country:

  1. After you check out from the website, tap UPI payment.
  2. Open Google Pay app .
  3. Scan the International QR code.
    On the screen, activate the UPI International QR code.
  4. Tap Activate UPI International.
    On the screen, activate the UPI International.
  5. Enter your PIN. 
On the screen, activate Enter your PIN.

6. Pay.

Turn off UPI International

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Go to your profile.
  3. In the “Payment methods,” pick the bank with UPI International turned on.
  4. Tap Manages international payments.
  5. Tap Deactivate.
  6. Enter your UPI PIN.
