UPI International

This feature is to enable P2M transactions at international e-commerce sites with Google Pay.

Activate UPI International

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Tap Scan QR code.
  3. Scan the international merchant’s QR code.
  4. Enter the amount in payable foreign currency.
  5. Select the bank account you want to use to pay the international merchant.
    • The debit from this bank account is in Indian currency. It includes the foreign exchange conversion rate and applicable bank fee. For more details, check the foreign exchange conversion rates and bank fees section below.

      A screen appears to activate "UPI International."
  6. Tap Activate UPI International.
    • You can only activate international transactions for bank accounts that support UPI International.

Tip: Activation for international transactions for a bank account expires after 7 days. However, you can activate it again.

Make international payments

Important: International payment transactions are similar to domestic UPI payments. Bank fees and foreign exchange conversion rates apply.

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Tap Scan QR code.
  3. Scan the international merchant’s QR code.
  4. Enter the amount in payable foreign currency.

    Enter the amount you have to pay.
  5. Select the bank account you want to use to pay the international merchant. Pay with the bank account of your choice.
    • The debit from this bank account is in Indian currency. It includes the foreign exchange conversion rate and applicable bank fee. For more details, check the foreign exchange conversion rates and bank fees section below.
  6. To confirm your payment, enter the UPI PIN.

Foreign exchange conversion rates & bank fees

For overseas payments, issuers (banks) and payment regulators (NPCI) set the foreign exchange conversion rate. Banks charge a fee to convert the denominations to Indian currency.

International payments can be made in the following countries:

  • Bhutan
  • Mauritius
  • Nepal
  • Singapore
  • Sri Lanka
  • UAE

Make international e-commerce payments

You can activate UPI International through:

  • “Activate UPI International” section
  • Scanning the international QR code

To make international payment with international QR code:

  1. After you check out from the e-commerce website, tap UPI payment.
  2. Open Google Pay app .
  3. Scan the International QR code.
    On the screen, activate the UPI International QR code.
  4. Tap Activate UPI International.
    On the screen, activate the UPI International.
  5. Enter your PIN.
    On the screen, activate Enter your PIN.
  6. Make the international payment.

Deactivate UPI International

  1. Open Google Pay app .
  2. Go to your profile section.
  3. In the “Payment methods,” select the bank where UPI International is activated.
  4. Tap Manages international payments.
  5. Tap Deactivate.
  6. Enter your UPI PIN.
