When you set up Google Pay for the first time, you’ll be asked to add a form of payment to send and receive money.
Checklist for addition of bank account on Google Pay

Before you add a bank account on Google Pay, here are a few things you should check:

  • Make sure that your bank works with UPI. If it doesn’t, your bank account won’t work with Google Pay.
  • Make sure that you have outgoing SMS services turned on. Some prepaid recharge packs don't have outgoing SMS enabled, so you need to get in touch with your operator. To check your balance with different operators:
    • Jio - 333#
    • BSNL - *123*1#
    • Airtel - *121*7#
    • MTNL - *123#
    • Tata - *111#
    • gVI - *199*1*8#

Tip: To test if this works, send an outgoing SMS to a friend or family member.

  • Make sure your SIM belongs to the same mobile number linked to your bank account.
  • To send a verification SMS, give permission to Google Pay. Standard SMS charges apply.
    • For single-SIM devices, ensure that your “active” SIM card belongs to the same mobile number linked to your bank account.
    • For dual-SIM devices, check your outgoing SMS settings. If your SMS is set to “Ask every time” for which SIM card the SMS should be sent from, you need to change this setting: Tap Settings, select SIM cards and tap on Dual SIM settings.

Verify the addition of your bank account with a debit card or Aadhaar

Important: When you add a bank account on Google Pay, you will need to verify your account using a debit card or Aadhaar.
