Supported cards and payment modes

You can add credit or debit cards to your list of payment methods instead of paying directly from a linked bank account.

Important: Cards added to Google Pay don’t replace linked bank accounts and are only valid payment methods for direct transactions with merchants. To send or receive money with others, you must link a bank account and act as your default payment method.

When you add a credit or debit card as a payment method, Google Pay creates a virtual account number known as a “token” that replaces your card’s actual number. This process, called “tokenization,” keeps your personal and financial information private. Tokenization helps makes sure that your private information isn’t shared with anyone else when you make transactions, including transactions in other apps.

After your token is created and your card is verified as a payment method, you can use your card to pay merchants in your day-to-day transactions. For each transaction you make with a card, you have the chance to win prizes and other rewards.

You can use a credit or debit card added in Google Pay for the following types of transactions:

• Tap & pay (NFC)
• Bharat QR
• Bill payments and recharges on Google Pay
• Online payments on Myntra, Dunzo, Yatra, Magicpin, Coolwinks, EaseMyTrip, and Confirmtkt Android apps

Important: You can work with your issuer bank to opt out of these types of transactions for your tokenized cards.
