You can now get a Recap from the past year in your featured memories carousel. If you've got notifications turned on, you’ll get a notification from Google Photos when your Recap is ready.
You can also get related insights from your year:
- Longest streak: Highlights your longest photo streak of the year.
- Year in smiles: Highlights the total number of smiles captured and who they smiled most with.
- Your top faces: Highlights your “All star cast” from this year.
- Year in color: Shows your color palette of the year.
- Your 2024 vibes: Reveals your top 3 personas.
You can save and share your Recap memory and related insights. These memories are also pinned to the photos grid under December after the start of the new year.
Before you start
To receive your Recap, you must:
- Have Face Groups turned on
- Have taken enough photos throughout the year
Find your Recap memory and related insights
- On your Android device, open the Google Photos app .
- Sign in to your Google Account.
- At the bottom, tap Photos.
- At the top of Photos view, in a carousel, find your featured memories carousel.
- To open your Recap, click on the memory you want to view.
- To exit a memory, at the top, tap Close .
- To revisit your viewed Recap, click the Arrow and scroll to the back of your carousel.
Find your Recap after the new year
While you can manually save your Recap to your photos grid, you can also find your Recap pinned to the grid, similar to “Best of Month” and “Trip memories today.”
Until the end of December, your viewed Recap memory and related insights will remain at the back of the featured memories carousel as “Viewed.” Afterwards, they move to pinned memories under December.
- On your Android device, open the Google Photos app .
- At the bottom, tap Photos.
- Scroll to the month of December. Your Recap will be pinned at the top.
Enable Gemini model-powered memories for an enhanced Recap
If you opt-in to Gemini features in Google Photos, you can get an enhanced Recap experience.
To receive Gemini model-powered memories, you must:
- Opt-in to Gemini features in Photos
- Right now, this opt-in is invite only.
- If previously disabled, turn on Gemini-powered memories.
- Be 18 or older
- Be in the United States
- Have Face Groups turned on
- Have estimated locations enabled
- Have the latest version of the Google Photos app
- Have backup turned on for this year’s content
