You can use Magic Editor to reimagine your photos on your Pixel device. You can move, recompose or erase parts of your photos, as well as apply contextual or special-effect presets, such as 'Sky' or 'Golden hour'.
Use Auto Frame to recompose your photo
Move a part of your photo
Important:
- Your device must have a 64-bit chipset with at least 4 GB RAM. It must also run on Android 8.0 or later.
- This feature is experimental and might not always work how you would expect it to.
Edit a photo with Magic Editor
Use Magic Editor:
- On your Pixel device, open the Google Photos app

- Tap the photo that you want to edit.
- Tap Edit

- At the bottom left, tap Magic Editor

.- When you're in Magic Editor mode, tap Preset
.
- Select a preset.
- To scroll through your options, swipe left.
- Tap the tick
.
- If you want to continue to edit your photo, repeat steps 1–3.
- Once you've finished with your edit, tap Save copy.
Tips:
- Preset options depend on your photo. Not all options are available at the same time.
- Presets may include Water, Sky, Auto frame, Portrait and more.
If a photo is too cropped or has not been properly framed, use the Auto Frame preset to recompose or extend the background of your photo.
Use Portrait to spotlight your subject
To automatically remove distractions, blur your background and add portrait lighting, use the Portrait preset.
Use Magic Editor to edit a part of your photo:
Important:
- It can take a moment for Magic Editor to generate photo options.
- To view or compare the original version with your edited photo, tap and hold the screen.
Once you have selected part of your photo, you can move, resize, erase or reimagine your selection.
Select part of your photo- When you're in Magic Editor mode, tap, draw a circle around or brush to select a part of your photo.
- Zoom in for better accuracy.
- To add or subtract objects from your current selection, tap Refine selection.
- To select more objects, keep Add selected.
- To select fewer objects, tap Subtract.
- To apply the edit, tap the tick
- Once you've finished with your edit, tap Save copy.
To move your selection, touch and hold, then drag it to the desired area.
Resize a part of your photo
To change the size of your selection, touch and hold, then pinch it with two fingers.
Erase a part of your photo
To remove your selection, tap Erase.
Reimagine a part of your photo
Important:
To use Reimagine, you must:
- Use English prompts.
- Be at least 18 years old and be using a Pixel 9 or later model, including Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet.
You can change the appearance, material or texture of your selection.
- At the bottom, tap Reimagine.
- In the corresponding text field, enter a prompt to change the content or the elements of your selection.
- For best results, be specific and descriptive. For example, start with a simple phrase, such as 'field of yellow flowers' or 'autumn leaves'.
- Swipe to check other options.
- Once you have found one that you like, tap the tick
Tips:
- For better results, only use nouns and adjectives.
- To change the background, select the background and make sure that the subjects aren't included.
- For edits such as brightening and contrast, use the standard editor.
- To erase, use Erase instead of Reimagine.
