Change your Camera app settings

 

You can change your photo and video settings. For example, you can turn location stamps on or off, save storage space, and control dirty lens warnings. Learn how to open your Camera app.

Turn off shutter sound
  1. Open your Camera app Google Camera.
  2. At the bottom left, tap Settings and then More settings.
  3. Turn off Camera sounds.

Tip: In some countries, you can’t turn off the shutter sound.

Turn off photo & video location stamps
  1. Open your Camera app Google Camera.
  2. At the bottom left, tap Settings and then More settings.
  3. Turn off Save location.

Tip: To view a timestamp for any photo, in the bottom right corner, tap the photo and then More . If you leave location stamps on, you’ll also get the photo location.

Reduce resolution to save storage space

Photos

  1. Open your Camera app Google Camera.
  2. At the bottom left, tap Settings .
  3. Under “Photo,” choose Full resolution or Medium resolution (Uses less storage).

Videos

  1. Open your Camera app Google Camera.
  2. Switch to Video mode Open video mode.
  3. At the bottom left, tap Settings .
  4. Next to “Resolution,” select Full HD.

Tip:  You can back up an unlimited number of photos and videos from a Pixel phone to Google Photos. Learn about Pixel phone backups.

Check photo and video storage space

To find out how many photos and minutes of video you can take on your Pixel phone:

  1. Open your Camera app Google Camera.
  2. At the bottom left, tap Settings and then More settings and then Device Storage .
  3. Your remaining storage is detailed at the top of your screen.
    • To optimize storage space: Turn on Storage Saver.
    • To remove files: Tap Free up space.
Turn off dirty lens warnings

You may get a warning message if your camera senses that the lens is dirty. To turn off these messages:

  1. Open your Camera app Google Camera.
  2. At the bottom left, tap Settings and then More settings and then Advanced.
  3. Turn off Show dirty lens warning.
Change what your volume buttons do
  1. Open your Camera app Google Camera.
  2. At the bottom left, tap Settings and then More settings.
  3. Tap Gestures and then Volume key action.
  4. Select an option.
Turn on flash

To turn on flash for brighter photos:

  1. Open the Camera app Google Camera.
  2. At the bottom left, tap Settings and then Flash .

Change settings on Pixel 5 & earlier phones

Turn on audio zoom

Important: This feature is only available on Pixel 5a and later, including Fold.

When you record video at a zoomed target, turn on Audio Zoom to boost sound and reduce other noise.

  1. Open the Camera app Google Camera.
  2. Switch to Video mode Open video mode.
  3. At the bottom left, tap Settings .
  4. Turn on Audio zoom.
