Check your phone settings to avoid missed calls

Manage your Phone app settings to make sure that you don’t miss phone calls.

Manage sound and vibration settings

To change your phone call and notification volume:

  1. On your phone, press the Volume button.
  2. At the right, tap More More.
  3. Under 'Ring and notification volume', slide the volume level to where you want it.

To check your vibrate and mute settings:

  1. On your phone, press the Volume button.
  2. At the right, above the slider, tap Ring Ring volume.
    • To turn vibrate on or off, tap Vibrate Vibrate.
    • To turn mute on or off, tap Mute Mute.

Check Do Not Disturb settings

Check that Do Not Disturb is turned off
  1. From the top of your screen, swipe down. 
  2. Next to Do Not Disturb Do Not Disturb, check that it’s turned off.

Delete preset schedules for Do Not Disturb
  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap Sound and vibration and then Do Not Disturb and then Schedules.
  3. Next to the preset schedule, tap Settings Settingsand then Delete Deleteand then Delete.
Check Bedtime mode settings
Make sure that Do Not Disturb doesn’t turn on automatically when using Bedtime mode. To turn it off:
  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap Digital Wellbeing and parental controls.
  3. Under 'Ways to disconnect', tap Bedtime mode and then Customise.
  4. Under 'When Bedtime mode is on', turn off Do Not Disturb for Bedtime mode
Check Driving mode settings
Make sure that Do Not Disturb doesn’t automatically turn on when you're driving. To turn it off:
  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap Sound and vibration and then Do Not Disturb and then Schedules.
  3. Next to 'Driving mode', tap Settings Settingsand then Turn on automatically.
  4. Turn off When driving is detected

Check your gesture settings

You can turn some gestures on and off to interact with your phone.

Active Edge (Pixel 2–4)
Check that you didn’t silence your incoming calls by squeezing your phone with Active Edge. Learn how to use Active Edge.

Stop silencing calls while using Active Edge

  1. Open your Settings app.
  2. Tap System and then Gestures and then Active Edge.
  3. Turn off Squeeze to silence phone.

Change how hard you squeeze Active Edge

  1. Open your Settings app.
  2. Tap System and then Gestures and then Active Edge.
  3. Move the 'Squeeze sensitivity' line to the left or right.
Flip to Shhh (Pixel 4a and later, including Fold)
To keep flip to Shhh on and stop silencing your incoming calls, keep your phone face up.

Check that flip to Shhh is off

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap System and then Gestures and then Flip to Shhh.
  3. Turn off Use flip to Shhh.

Manage your notifications and Call Screen settings

Turn on Phone app notifications
Check that your notifications aren’t blocked in your device settings:
  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps and then All apps and then Phone.
  3. Turn on All phone notifications.
Check your Call Screen settings (Pixel 4a and later, including Fold)
Tip: Call Screen is only available in the US for users who are eligible.
  1. Open the Phone app phone.
  2. Tap More Moreand then Settings and then Caller ID and Spam.
  3. Check that See caller and spam ID is turned on.
Check blocked numbers
  1. Open the Phone app phone.
  2. Tap More Moreand then Settings and then Blocked numbers.
  3. Make sure that the phone number you want to receive a call from isn’t listed.
