You can translate text messages, videos, webpages, road signs, or menus on your Pixel 8a, 8, or 8 Pro.

Google Lens

To translate languages that appear in your photo or screenshots:

  1. Open the Google Photos app .
  2. Select a photo.
  3. Tap Lens Google Lens and then Translate.

Camera

To translate text with your camera:

  1. On your Pixel search bar, tap Lens Google Lens.
  2. Search with your camera.
  3. Tap Translate.
    • You can translate when you hover over the text with your camera, or take a photo of words to translate.

Messaging

To translate your text messages, open a text message that’s in another language. You’ll get a prompt to download the new language. Then, you can read the translated text messages.

Interpreter mode

You can ask Google Assistant to translate a conversation with someone who doesn’t speak your language.

  1. Say, "Hey Google."
  2. Then, say a command, like “Turn on interpreter mode.”
  3. Choose the languages you want to use.
  4. When you hear the tone, start to speak in either language and Google Assistant will translate.

The languages you can use with interpreter mode depend on your device. After you’ve started interpreter mode, you can ask Google Assistant to translate more languages. Learn which languages Google Assistant can translate to.

To stop the interpreter mode, say a command like, “Stop” or “Quit.”
