If you’re having Wi-Fi connection problems or see a Wi-Fi icon with an exclamation point , try the solutions below. After each solution, try to open a web page on your phone to see if the issue is fixed.
How to check your settings and restart
- Make sure that Wi-Fi is on. Then turn it off and on again to reconnect. Learn how to connect to Wi-Fi networks.
- Make sure that Aeroplane mode is off. Then turn it on and off again to reconnect. Find out how to enable and disable aeroplane mode.

Press your phone's power button for a few seconds. Then, on your screen, tap Restart .
How to identify the connection issue
- Phone: Try connecting to the Wi-Fi network with another device, like a laptop computer or a friend's phone. If other devices can use the network, the problem is most likely with your phone.
- Network: Check whether your phone can connect to another Wi-Fi network, like at a friend's house or a public network. If your phone can connect elsewhere, the problem is most likely with the network.
- Internet: If your phone connects to the Wi-Fi network but you still have no Internet, the problem is most likely with your Internet connection.

How to delete and re-add networkDelete a Wi-Fi network from your phone
- Open your phone’s Settings app.
- Tap Network and Internet Internet.
- If needed, turn on Wi-Fi.
- At the bottom, tap Saved networks.
- In the list, tap the saved network that you want to delete.
- Tap Forget.
Add the Wi-Fi network again
- Open your phone’s Settings app.
- Tap Network and Internet Internet.
- At the end of the list, tap Add network.
- If needed, enter the network name (SSID) and other security details.
- Tap Save. If needed, enter a password.
The problem can be from an app that you downloaded. To find out, restart your phone in safe mode.
- Turn on safe mode. Find out how to turn on safe mode.
- Try connecting to the Wi-Fi network again.
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap Network and Internet Internet the network name.
- Check if the Wi-Fi connection works in safe mode.
- If the Wi-Fi connection works in safe mode, a downloaded app is most likely causing the issue.
- To exit safe mode, restart your phone.
- Uninstall recently downloaded apps one by one. See whether the connection works.
- After you remove the app that's causing the problem, reinstall the other apps.
- If the Wi-Fi connection doesn't work in safe mode
There could be a problem with the Wi-Fi network or Internet connection.
- If the Wi-Fi connection works in safe mode, a downloaded app is most likely causing the issue.
An incorrect date and time on your phone can cause Wi-Fi connection problems. Make sure that you set your phone to automatically follow the date and time of your network. To turn on automatic date settings:
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap System Date and time.
- Turn on Set time automatically.
How to fix Internet and network issues
How to restart the router and modemIf the Wi-Fi router and modem are yours, try turning them off and then on again.
- Unplug the router and modem's power cords from the power socket for 15 seconds.
- Plug the power cords back in.
- Check that all cords and cables are secure at both ends.
- Wait a few minutes, until the lights on the modem and router are working properly. (See the device manual or manufacturer's support site.)
If the lights aren't working properly, you could have an issue with the modem, router or Internet connection.
Contact the network administrator or your Internet Service Provider. For example, there could be a service outage, or they could need to reset your connection.
Important: Public networks, like at cafés or airports, often have a web page for you to complete. If you sign in or accept the terms, the public connection should work.
If you don't see an authorisation page after you connect to a public network:
- Check for a notification that asks you to sign in.
- Open a new page in a new window.
If those steps don't work, try restarting your connection to the network:
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap Network and Internet Internet.
- Touch and hold the network name. Tap Forget.
- Turn Wi-Fi off and then on again.
- On the list, tap the network name.
- You'll get a notification to sign in. Tap the notification.
- To connect to the network, agree to the terms.
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap System Reset options Reset Wi-Fi, mobile and Bluetooth.
- At the bottom, tap Reset settings.
How to fix Wi-Fi hotspot issues
How to check that hotspot is on- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap Network & Internet Hotspot & tethering.
- Tap Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Turn on Use Wi-Fi hotspot.
- If it was already on, turn it off and then on again.
- If your phone hasn't had a hotspot before, first tap Set up Wi-Fi hotspot.

If you have issues, check with your operator. Ask whether your phone can connect to mobile hotspots and whether they're in your data plan.
When no devices are connected to the hotspot for 10 minutes, the hotspot will automatically turn off.
On devices that don't support hotspot and Wi-Fi at the same time, Wi-Fi will also turn back on automatically and attempt to connect to the last known network.
What to do when you reconnect
