Change wallpaper on your Pixel phone

You can change the background images on your phone's Home screens and lock screens. You can choose from your own photos or use images that come on your phone, including images that change automatically.

Important:

Change wallpapers
  1. On your phone's Home screen, touch and hold an empty space.
  2. Tap Wallpaper & style. If you don't see "Wallpaper & style," tap Wallpapers.
  3. Tap Change wallpaper.
    • To use your own image, tap My photos.
    • To use a curated image, tap a category And then an image.
    • Pixel 2 & later: To use a live wallpaper, tap Bloom or Living Universe And then a wallpaper. If needed, tap Download .
    • Pixel 4 only: To interact with your wallpaper with Motion Sense, first set up Live Wallpaper. Tap Come Alive And then a wallpaper And then Download .
  4. At the bottom, tap Set wallpaper or Done .
  5. If available, pick which screen(s) show the wallpaper.
Add special effects to photo wallpapers (Pixel 6 & later)
  1. On your phone's Home screen, touch and hold an empty space.
  2. Tap Wallpaper and then My photos.
  3. Select a photo.
  4. Tap Effects .
  5. Turn on Create Cinematic wallpaper.
  6. To preview your wallpaper, tap Home screen and then Lock screen.
  7. To select a wallpaper location, tap Home screen, Lock screen, or Home and lock screens.
Create custom wallpapers (Pixel 4a & later)
  1. Choose an emoji or get a random assortment:
    1. On your phone's Home screen, touch and hold an empty space.
    2. Tap Wallpaper & style and then Change wallpaper and then Emoji Workshop.
    3. At the bottom right, tap Edit Emoji and then Done .
    4. Choose your emoji.
      • For a particular emoji: Select from the keyboard. You can choose up to 14 emojis to decorate your wallpaper.
      • For a random assortment: Tap Randomize.
  2. Select a pattern and size:
    1. At the bottom panel, tap Patterns.
    2. Select a pattern style.
    3. To change emoji size on the pattern, use the slider.
  3. Select a color:
    1. At the bottom panel, tap Colors.
    2. Select a wallpaper color.
  4. Preview and set your wallpaper:
    1. To preview your emoji wallpaper, tap Lock screen and then Home screen.
    2. When your preview looks right, tap Set wallpaper.
    3. To select a wallpaper location, tap Home screen or Home and lock screens.
Create AI wallpapers (Pixel 8 & Pixel 8 Pro)

Important: AI wallpapers may not be available for certain account types, such as Family Link accounts.

You can use generative AI to create custom and unique wallpapers based on your own prompts. You can:

  • Access the new wallpaper through the current wallpaper options.
  • Fill in the blanks to create a prompt in a pre-written template.
  • Choose different options to fine-tune the final result.
  • Save created wallpapers for reuse later.

To generate an AI wallpaper:

  1. On your phone's Home screen, tap and hold an empty space.
  2. Tap Wallpaper & style and then More wallpapers and then AI wallpaper.
  3. Choose a theme to create your AI-generated wallpaper.
  4. Tap Inspire me to get a random wallpaper for your chosen prompt.
  5. Tap any underlined word in the prompt to explore specific options.
  6. To generate a wallpaper, tap Create wallpaper.
  7. Choose between several AI-generated wallpapers by swiping left or right.
  8. To set the wallpaper, tap Done and select Lock screen or Home screen and then Set wallpaper.

Tip: Once used, the wallpaper is saved so you can reuse it again later.

Change the clock style with the latest Android version
  1. On your phone's Home screen, touch and hold an empty space.
  2. Tap Wallpaper & style and then Lock screen.
  3. Above the caption “ Clock color & size,” swipe left or right to see style options.
  4. Tap Color and select the color you want.
    Tip: To make the color lighter or darker, use the slider.
  5. Tap Size and select the size you want.
    • Dynamic: Clock size changes according to lock screen content
    • Small
  6. To save your style changes, tap the left arrow .
Change Home screen styles (Pixel 2 & later)

To pick your Home screen's fonts, icons shapes, and colors:

  1. On your phone’s Home screen, touch and hold an empty space.
  2. Tap Wallpaper & style.
  3. Tap Wallpaper colors or Basic colors.
  4. Choose a style.
  5. Tap Apply or Done .
Change Home screen grid (Pixel 3 & later)

To pick the grid size on your Home screen:

  1. On your phone’s Home screen, touch and hold an empty space.
  2. Tap Wallpaper & style.
  3. At the bottom, tap App grid.
  4. Choose a grid size.
  5. Tap Done .
Use a daily wallpaper (Pixel 4 & earlier)
  1. On your phone's Home screen, touch and hold an empty space.
  2. Tap Wallpaper & style.
  3. Tap Change wallpaper.
    • Daily wallpaper doesn't work with your personal photos or live wallpapers.
  4. Choose a wallpaper category.
  5. At the top right, tap Daily wallpaper .
  6. Tap Ok.
Use themed icons

To change supported app icons to match your phone’s color scheme:

  1. On your phone’s Home screen, touch and hold an empty space.
  2. Tap Wallpaper & style.
  3. At the bottom, tap Themed icons to turn it on or off.
