"OK Google" isn't working on my Pixel Slate

If your Pixel Slate isn't responding to “OK Google,” follow these steps to try fixing the issue.

Step 1: See if the Google Assistant is turned on

The steps to fix "Ok Google" change depending on if the Google Assistant is turned on. You won’t be able to use "Ok Google" without turning on the Google Assistant.

  1. On your device, press the Launch assistant key key.
  2. If a message says "Hi, how can I help?" the Google Assistant is on. Follow Step 3 below to turn on "Ok Google." If you don’t see this message, go to Step 2.
  3. If you're asked to turn on the Google Assistant, select Yes.

Step 2: Enable Google Assistant

  1. Select the clock in the bottom corner to open your status area.
  2. Select Settings Settings.
  3. Scroll to the “Search and Assistant” section. Under "Google Assistant," it will say "Enabled" or "Disabled." If disabled, select Google Assistant. If enabled, go to step 3.
  4. Select the toggle to turn on Google Assistant.

Step 3: Turn on "Ok Google"

  1. Select the clock in the bottom corner to open the status area.
  2. Select Settings Settings.
  3. "Under Search and Assistant," select Google Assistant.
  4. Turn on "Ok Google."

Step 4: Check for a Google app update

  1. Go to the Google app page.
  2. Select Update. (If you see "Installed," you already have the latest version.)

Step 5: Say "Ok Google"

To see if the issue is fixed, say "Ok Google."

  1. If you’re in a loud area, turn off background noise or go somewhere quieter.
  2. Say "Ok Google" like you would to a person.
