Connect your Pixel Slate to a monitor

You can connect your Pixel Slate to a monitor or TV with an HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI, or VGA port (using an appropriate USB-C cable converter).

Pixel Slate | How to Connect to a Monitor

Connect a compatible USB-C adapter to the external display, and then plug the USB-C end into either of your device's USB-C ports.

Keep in mind that some monitor configurations might not work with your device.

When in tablet mode, or whenever you don't have a pointing device connected (like an external mouse or keyboard with a trackpad), the external display will automatically mirror your device's screen.

When in laptop mode with a pointing device connected (like an external mouse or keyboard with a trackpad), the external display will automatically become a new screen, expanding your working area and allowing you to move windows onto it.

Adjust or rotate the display

Depending on the situation, it may be necessary to change the resolution or orientation of your external display for best results.

  1. At the bottom right, select the time to open the status area.
  2. Select Settings
  3. In the "Device" section, select Displays.
    • Choose the primary display: After selecting the external display, you can set it to be the primary screen or an extended screen.
    • Change the image size: In the "Display size" section, adjust the screen until it's a comfortable size.
    • Change the image sharpness: In the "Resolution" section, choose the screen resolution you prefer.
    • Rotate the image: In the "Orientation" section, set the appropriate screen orientation.
    • Fix the image border: In the “Overscan” section, you can adjust the edges of the screen to prevent anything from being cut off, or to eliminate any unwanted border.

Enable/disable screen mirroring

Screen mirroring duplicates everything on your device’s built-in display onto a connected external display. When screen mirroring is disabled, external displays will instead serve as extensions of your screen, giving you additional area to work with.

  1. At the bottom right, select the time to open the status area.
  2. Select Settings .
  3. In the "Device" section, select Displays.
  4. Check or uncheck the box next to Mirror internal display.

When in Laptop mode, you can also enable or disable screen mirroring quickly by pressing Ctrl + the Full Screen Full screen key

Move windows between displays

When in laptop mode, you can move the currently active window to an external display instantly by pressing Search + Alt + M.

Otherwise, you can move windows to an external display by dragging the window from your device’s built-in display to the external display.

Troubleshoot your monitor

Monitor configurations that are incompatible with your device

The following external monitor and USB-C adapter configurations are known to have issues when used with Pixel Slate:

  • LG 27UK850-W monitor when using a USB-C to USB-C connection
  • Nonda HDMI to USB-C adapter
  • Cable Matters HDMI to USB-C adapter
Issues with monitor connected through a USB-C hub or dock

Try resetting your device's connection to the monitor.

  1. Leave the hub or dock connected to your device's USB-C port.
  2. Unplug the monitor from your hub or dock.
  3. Plug the monitor back into your hub or dock.

If the issue still occurs, you can also try performing a hard reset.

Issues with monitor connected directly to device via USB-C adapter

First, try unplugging the monitor from your device and then plugging it back in.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, try using a different connector type, if possible.

For example, if the monitor has both a DisplayPort and HDMI port, and the DisplayPort to USB-C adapter connection isn't working, try using an HDMI to USB-C adapter instead.

If the issue still occurs, you can also try performing a hard reset.

If you're still experiencing issues, perform a hard reset

If the troubleshooting steps above haven't resolved your issue, performing a hard reset on your device could help.

  1. Turn off your device by holding down the PowerPower, or selecting the time in the bottom right and choosing Power Power
  2. Wait 1 minute.
  3. Press and hold the Power Power + Volume up button for 10 seconds.
