If you’re new to Read Along, this article shows you around the app and helps you complete common tasks.
Download the Read Along app
- Open the Google Play Store app .
- At the top, search for "Read Along."
- Tip: On your device's browser, you can enter g.co/readalong.
- Select the Read Along app.
- Tap Install.
Set up Read Along as a parent or guardian
To set up the app for the first time, you must complete the following steps:
- Open the Read Along app .
- From the list of languages, select the language you prefer.
- Review "Important information for parents."
- To accept the privacy settings, tap Got it.
- To allow Read Along to record audio, tap Allow.
- To learn how to read a story, follow the guide.
Create your first profile
- Open the Read Along app .
- Tap a story in the library.
- Read the story.
- After you read the story, Diya helps you create your profile:
- Tap Open camera .
- To allow Read Along to take pictures and record video, tap Allow.
- To take a photo, tap Camera .
- To confirm, tap the Check mark .
Tip: To edit your profile or create a new one, go to Create or edit a profile.
Explore Read Along
Explore the Library pageThe Library page is where you find stories to read.
To open the Library page:
- Open the Read Along app .
- Select your profile. The Library page opens by default.
- If you’re on another tab, to return to the Library page, at the bottom-left corner, tap Library.
Overview of the Library page
On the Library page, you can:
- Download stories to read offline.
- Tip: Stories are organized by themes and difficulty levels.
- Read stories you download.
- Play games.
To open the Prizes page:
- Open the Read Along app .
- Select your profile.
- At the bottom of the page, tap Prizes.

On the Prizes page, you can find your prices.
- To find out what goals must be met to earn a prize, tap any prize icon.
The Activity page is where students or parents can find their progress.
To open the Activity page:
- Open the Read Along app .
- Select your profile.
- At the bottom-right corner, tap Activity.

On the Activity page, you can:
- Review your daily goal completion.
- Review your weekly activity.
- Find your reading groups.
- Tip: If you’re enrolled in more than one reading group, you can scroll through your groups by swiping side to side.
- Review completed stories.
- Know your lifetime stats, such as total minutes read and stories completed.
The Activity page is where you can review your students’ progress in a specific reading group.
To open the Activity page:
- Open the Read Along app .
- At the bottom-right corner, tap Activity.

On the Activity page, you can:
- Switch between reading groups.
- Find students who are active and inactive every week.
- Find stories that are popular with students every week.
- Find students who read and play games.
- Find each student’s words-per-minute reading speed.
- Access settings for a reading group.
- Invite students to a reading group.
