App assets allow you to link to your mobile or tablet app from your text ads. People click either on your ad headline to go to your site or on the link to your app. App assets are a great way to provide access to your website and your app from a single ad.
If you've already created app assets in Google Ads, you can sync them into new Search Ads 360. If you applied the assets to campaigns or ad groups in Google Ads, you'll see them applied to the same campaigns and ad groups in the new Search Ads 360.
This article explains how to set up properties of app assets and steps to create new app assets and edit existing ones.
Instructions
Create an app asset
- Sign in to your Search Ads 360 experience.
- Navigate to a Google Ads client account.
- From the page menu, click Assets.
- Click the plus icon , and select App.
- Enter properties for the app asset.
- (Optional) Apply the app asset as follows:
- To apply the asset to all campaigns and ad groups by default, click Account from the “Add to” dropdown. All campaigns and ad groups that don't specify their own app asset settings will inherit the account-level asset.
- To apply the asset to specific campaigns and ad groups, click Campaign or Ad group from the “Add to” dropdown. The campaigns and ad groups you select will no longer inherit account-level assets. Instead, they'll only display the ad assets that you apply directly to the campaign or ad group.
- Click Save.
Edit existing app assets
Changes to an app asset don’t trigger Google Ads to recreate the ads that use the asset. If you change an ad, Google Ads recreates the ad and resets all metrics for the ad.
- Navigate to a Google Ads client account.
- From the page menu, click Assets.
- Under "Upgraded", click on the App button to view all App assets.
- Select the checkbox next to an app asset and click the Edit button, which appears above the reporting table.
- Update the app asset properties.
- Click Save.
New Search Ads 360 traffics the changes to Google Ads.
Properties of app assets
- Mobile OS: Specify the type of operating system your app runs on. The asset will only appear on devices that use a similar operating system as your app. If you've created an app for both Android and iOS operating systems, create 2 separate assets.
- Package name: For Android apps, enter the package name of your app. For iOS apps, enter the ID assigned by the Apple App Store.
Example package name for an Android app:
You can find the package name in the URL for the app in Google Play (for example, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.example.android.myapp).
Example package name for an iOS app:
You can find the ID in the URL of the app within the Apple App Store (for example, http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/example-app-name/id123457890).
- Link text: Enter the link text that appears in the ad.
- Destination URL: Enter the URL of your app in the app store. Example: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.example.android.myapp
- URL Template: Enter a new Search Ads 360 URL template, which can contain a third-party tracking URL to use when customers click the app asset. Learn more About tracking URLs in the new Search Ads 360 experience.
- Exclude tablets: Select this checkbox to display the asset only on mobile phones, even if your app can also be installed on tablets.
- Apply to account: All campaigns and ad groups that don't already specify their own app asset settings will inherit the account-level asset. To apply the asset only to specific campaigns or ad groups, don't select the “Apply to account”.
- Start Date: Optionally specify the date you want the asset to start appearing in ads. If you don't specify a start date, the asset can appear as soon as you apply it to the account or specific campaigns and ad groups.
- End Date: Optionally specify the date you want the asset to stop appearing in ads. If you don't specify an end date, the asset never expires and can appear indefinitely.
