Edit/override a Search Ads 360 bid strategy

Edit the device bid-adjustment setting in a Search Ads 360 bid strategy

When you first create a Search Ads 360 bid strategy with an ROI goal, you can choose between getting recommendations for device bid adjustments or letting the bid strategy set device bid adjustments for you.

If you start with getting recommendations, which is the default, you can edit the bid strategy so that it makes the adjustments.

If you start with letting the bid strategy make adjustments, you can edit the bid strategy so that it only recommends adjustments.

Campaigns and ad groups use device bid adjustments from the bid strategy that is applied to keywords 

If you apply a Search Ads 360 bid strategy that sets device bid adjustments directly to a keyword or other biddable item, the bid strategy will set the device bid adjustments for the entire ad group even if a different bid strategy is applied to the ad group or campaign. At the campaign level, the keyword's bid strategy will only recommend the bid adjustments.

 

From recommendations to setting device adjustments

To edit a bid strategy so that it sets device bid adjustments for you:

  1. Navigate to a bid strategy.

    Steps for navigating to a bid strategy
    1. Navigate to an advertiser.

    2. In the left navigation panel, click Bid strategies.

    3. Click a bid strategy name from the reporting table.

      Alternatively, you can do the following:

      1. Click the more icon at the end of the navigation bar to display navigation options.

      2. In the Agency list, click on the agency that contains the bid strategy. You can search for an agency by name or scroll through the list.

      3. In the Advertiser list, click on the advertiser that contains the bid strategy.

      4. In the Bid strategy list, click on the bid strategy.

      5. Click Apply or press the Enter key.

    Search Ads 360 displays the bid strategy page.

  2. Do either of the following:

    From the bid strategy's Campaigns or Ad groups tab

    1. Click the Campaigns or Ad groups tab.
      The reporting table lists the campaigns or ad groups that the bid strategy targets.

      If the bid strategy is currently recommending device bid adjustments, you'll see this message and button above the reporting table:

      The "Change bid stategy setting" button appears if the bid strategy only recommends instead of sets device bid adjustments.

      Don't see the Change bid strategy setting button? The button appears only if:
      • The bid strategy currently recommends device bid adjustments

      • You're on the bid strategy's Campaigns or Ad groups tab

    2. Click the Change bid strategy setting button.

      Note that the Change bid strategy setting button changes behavior for the entire bid strategy. If you click the button from the Ad groups tab, all campaigns and ad groups that use the bid strategy will be affected.
       
    3. Click Yes, I understand.

    From the bid strategy settings panel

    1. Click the bid strategy settings button  that appears above the tabs.
    2. On the Goal page of the bid strategy settings panel, select the Device bid adjustments check box.
       
    3. Click Save bid strategy.

After you make this change, it may take up to 24 hours for the bid strategy to change bid adjustments. 

From setting adjustments to recommendations

To edit a bid strategy so that it only recommends device bid adjustments:

  1. Navigate to a bid strategy.

    Steps for navigating to a bid strategy
    1. Navigate to an advertiser.

    2. In the left navigation panel, click Bid strategies.

    3. Click a bid strategy name from the reporting table.

      Alternatively, you can do the following:

      1. Click the more icon at the end of the navigation bar to display navigation options.

      2. In the Agency list, click on the agency that contains the bid strategy. You can search for an agency by name or scroll through the list.

      3. In the Advertiser list, click on the advertiser that contains the bid strategy.

      4. In the Bid strategy list, click on the bid strategy.

      5. Click Apply or press the Enter key.

    Search Ads 360 displays the bid strategy page.

  2. Click the bid strategy settings button  that appears above the tabs.

  3. On the Goal page of the bid strategy settings panel, remove the check from the Device bid adjustments check box.
     
  4. Click Save bid strategy.

The bid strategy no longer sets the device bid adjustments. You can view the recommended bid adjustment and manually change it.
