Invite others to edit your site

Note: This section is for new Google Sites (at the bottom right, you'll see Create Create). Get help with classic Google Sites.

Add an editor

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites
  2. At the top, click Share Share with others.
  3. Under 'Invite people', enter the name or email address of the person or Google Group you want to add.
  4. Click Send and then Done.

Follow a collaborator on Google Sites

You can follow a collaborator if you edit the site at the same time. When the collaborator moves to another part of the site, you also move there.

  1. On your computer, go to Google Sites.
  2. Open a site.
  3. At the top right, click the collaborator's profile picture to follow them to the same page or tile.
    • If the collaborator moves to another page or tile after you follow them, you won’t move to the new page or tile.
Issues when you follow a collaborator

You can't follow a collaborator who:

  • Uses an unsupported device
  • Is anonymous
  • Doesn't have permission to edit the site
  • Is on the same page as you are, but hasn’t selected a page element

Stop, limit or change sharing

After you share a site, you can stop sharing a site at any time. You can also prevent someone you’ve shared with from changing or sharing your site.

Change who can edit your site

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites
  2. At the top, click Share Share with others.
  3. Under 'Who has access', click Change.
  4. Choose an option and click Save.

Limit what editors can change

You can decide if editors can publish, change what other editors can do, or add new editors.

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites
  2. At the top, click Share Share with others.
  3. Under 'Owner settings', click Prevent editors from publishing, changing access and adding new people.
  4. Click Save changes and then Done.

Remove an editor

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites
  2. At the top, click Share Share with others.
  3. Under 'Who has access', find the editor you want to remove.
  4. Next to the editor’s name, click Delete Delete and then Done.

Change the site owner

Note: The new owner can change what you can edit or remove you from the site.

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites
  2. At the top, click Share Share with others.
  3. Under 'Who has access', find the name of the person you want to be the new owner.
  4. Next to the person’s name, click the Down arrow Down and then Is owner.
  5. Click Save changes and then Done.

Prevent others from sharing your site

If you’re sharing a site, the owner or anyone with edit permissions can change the sharing settings for the site. To make it so only you can share:

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. At the top,  click Share Share with others.
  3. At the top of the window, click Settings Settings.
  4. Uncheck Editors can publish, change permissions, and add new people.

Invite others to edit your site

Add or remove an editor

  1. On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  2. At the top right, click Share.
  3. Under 'Invite people', enter the name or email address of the person or Google Group you want to add.
  4. Click Send.

Remove an editor

  1. On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  2. At the top, click Share.
  3. Under 'Who has access', find the editor you want to remove.
  4. Next to the editor’s name, click Delete Delete and then Save changes.

Change who can edit your site

  • On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  • At the top, click Share.
  • Under 'Who has access', click Change and then choose an option.
  • Next to 'Access', click the Down arrow​ Down and then Can edit.
  • Click Save.

Change owners and editors of your site

  1. On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  2. At the top, click Share.
  3. Under 'Who has access', find the person whose role you want to change.
  4. Next to the person’s name, click the Down arrow​ Down .
  5. Choose an option:
    1. Is owner: Change site name, theme, and layout, edit site, invite others to edit or view.
    2. Can edit: Create and edit pages, add attachments and comments.
    3. Can view: View pages.
  6. Click Save changes.

Change who can see a page

  1. On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  2. At the top, click Share.
  3. At the top right, click Enable page-level permissions and then Turn on page-level permissions.
  4. On the left, choose a page and click Change.
  5. Choose who can see the page and click Save.

Note: If you make your site public, individual pages may go public.
