About authorization holds

You may notice an authorization hold on your card after you pre-order your item. This pending charge is temporary and usually held for 7 days but may vary depending on your bank. If you use a debit card, you may notice an authorization hold as a charge on your online statement. Your bank automatically reverses these holds when the authorization is released.

You’ll be charged the full price of your device when it ships. If you have more questions about authorization holds, please contact your bank or card provider.

For orders in Japan: Authorization reversals can take up to 45–60 days for banks to process. Please contact your bank about the average time taken for a hold to be removed.

Learn about pre-orders

Some items are available to pre-order, which means you can place the order before the official sale date. When you check out, you get an estimated delivery date and a temporary authorization hold on your payment method. You're charged once the order ships from the warehouse.

Pre-order an item from the Google Store

The pre-order process is the same as a regular order on the Google Store. Learn how to place an order on the Google Store.

Make a pre-order payment
  • The Google Store places a temporary hold on your payment method for the full cost of the item. This hold is in a pending state when you place the order.
    • Tip: If you use a debit card, the authorization hold may appear as a charge on your online statement.
  • The pending amount is released after the confirmation of available funds is received.
    • Tip: If you notice the original charge is reverted or removed from your payment account, it doesn’t mean your order is canceled.

    • For orders in Japan: Authorization reversals can take up to 45–60 days to be processed. Please contact your bank for the average time taken for a hold to be removed.
  • For longer pre-order periods, the initial pre-authorization may have already expired and we need to re-authorize your payment account. The final charge is made after your device ships.
    • Tip: Make sure enough funds are available on your form of payment to avoid shipping delays.
  • If your payment method is declined, you'll get an email with instructions to update your payment method. To avoid your order being canceled, learn how to update Google Store payment method.
    • Tip: We don’t have details on why payments are declined. Please contact your bank for more information.
    • To check if a payment update was successful, wait 1–2 hours and sign in to Google payments center. If you’re still prompted with the “Fix payment method” button, it wasn’t successful. You may update the payment details again or try a different payment method.
Pre-order with trade-ins

The trade-in process is the same as when you buy a device that's already available on Google Store. Learn more about the trade-in process.

Edit or cancel your pre-order

You can edit or cancel your pre-order up until your device is ready to be shipped. Learn how to cancel or edit your order.

Learn about out of stock items

Check if an item is out of stock

To find if an item is available, go to the Google Store. If an item is out of stock, the product page displays an “Out of Stock” icon.

Know when out of stock items are available to order

If an item is out of stock and can’t be bought, you have the option to get notified. Join the notification list to be notified when the item is available to buy again.

  • Tip: Your spot on the notification list doesn’t reserve or guarantee a device, nor the current price or promotion. You’ll only receive an email notification when an item is back in stock.
  • If a notification list isn’t available, check when the item is available by regularly going to the Google Store.
  • Based on when the item is back in stock, it may not be eligible for any previous promotions.
If your order was canceled & your item is out of stock

You can’t order your item if it’s out of stock. For the latest item availability, sign up for the notification list if available or regularly go to the Google Store.

Check device availability by location

Based on your location, different items are for sale on the Google Store. Not every device is available in every region. Make sure you choose a location that matches your shipping address. To change your Google Store location or language, go to the region and language selection page. Learn more about devices available by location.
