Learn about disputed content

When you use Google Translate, you might find messages on words flagged as potentially disputed content to help inform you when translations might be considered incorrect.

If Translate identifies any content that includes info that users have disputed as incorrect or inappropriate, you may get the message, ' Contains disputed language'.

The disputed content message may appear if:

  • Users report that a translation is incorrect.
  • There’s a potential gender error in the translation. Learn more about gender-specific translations.
  • There may be other translations available that may be considered more neutral or widely used.

If Translate suggests that content is disputed, it may also explain why.

We can't always fix disputed translations since they may be considered  incorrect to some users and correct to others. To help you determine if the translation suits your purpose when the translation might be considered non-inclusive, incorrect or harmful, we show the message that the content is disputed.

Tip: If you believe that an offensive or disputed content message is inaccurate, you can send us feedback.
