Send Google Voice calls to voicemail

When people call your Google Voice number and you don't answer, the calls go to voicemail. You can also send calls directly to voicemail without ringing your number. Voicemails can be up to three minutes long and there's no limit to the number of voicemails.

Send calls to voicemail after your working hours

This feature is available with Voice for Google Workspace accounts managed by your work or school. Sign in to your Google Workspace account.

When you're not working or you're away from the office, you can send Voice calls directly to voicemail. Voice respects the working hours and out-of-office schedule that you set in Google Calendar.

Before you begin

In Calendar, set your working hours and availability.

  1. On your computer, go to voice.google.com.
  2. At the top right, click Settings .
  3. On the left, click Do not disturb.
  4. Turn on the Calendar setting that you want:
    • Follow working hours – Sends calls to voicemail when Calendar shows you're not working.
      If this option is inactive, you'll need to set your working hours in Calendar.
    • Follow out of office – Sends calls to voicemail when Calendar shows you're away from work.

Send calls to voicemail temporarily

You can send all calls to your Voice number directly to voicemail. Turn this setting on or off at any time.

Tip: This setting won't forward texts sent to your Voice number.

On a computer

  1. On your computer, open Google Voice.
  2. At the top right, click Settings .
  3. On the left, click Do not disturb.
  4. Turn on Send calls to voicemail.

On a phone

  1. On your phone, open the Voice app .
  2. At the top left, tap Menu and then Settings.
  3. Under Do not disturb, turn on Do not disturb.

When you turn on Do Not Disturb, a yellow banner displays at the top of your screen in Voice.

Turn off Do Not Disturb

  • From a phone, tap Expand , then tap End now.
  • From a computer, click End now.

Change your settings

  • From a phone, tap Expand , then tap Settings.
  • From a computer, click Settings.

Send calls to voicemail permanently

If you never want calls to ring your Voice number, you can turn off all your devices and linked numbers. All calls will then go to voicemail.

On a computer

  1. On your computer, open Google Voice.
  2. At the top right, click Settings .
  3. On the left, click Calls.
  4. Under Incoming calls, turn off all your devices.
  5. Under Call forwarding, turn off all linked numbers.

On a phone

  1. On your phone, open the Voice app .
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Tap Devices and numbers.
  4. Next to all your devices and linked numbers, tap Remove Remove and then Remove.
