Your Google Voice number lets you make and receive calls at voice.google.com or on the Google Voice app. You can also link phone numbers that you want to forward calls to if you don't want to answer with Google Voice. When call forwarding is set up, calls to your Google Voice number will make your linked phones ring.
Forwarding calls from your Google Voice number to an automated system is unsupported.

Note: The linked number feature isn't available to SIP link users. If you're uncertain whether you're a SIP link user, contact your IT admin.
Important: To receive call notifications on your computer, you must be signed in to your Google Voice account with your browser window open. Supported browsers are Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox and Safari.
Add a number to make and receive calls and send and receive texts
- Go to Google Voice.
- At the top right, click Settings .
- Under ‘Account’ ‘Linked numbers’, click New linked number.
- Enter the phone number to link.
- Google Voice sends you a verification code.
- To verify a mobile number: click Send code.Google Voice sends the code in a text message.
- To verify a landline: click Verify by phone Call. Google Voice calls the phone number and gives the code.
- Enter the code click Verify.
Tips:
- You can link up to six numbers. You can't link a number that's already linked to a Google Voice number.
- Calls to your Google Voice number also ring on your linked number.
- To keep the voice.google.com tab open in Chrome, right-click the tab Pin.
Get notifications in Gmail
- To forward texts, missed calls and voicemail to Gmail, go to Google Voice.
- At the top right, click Settings .
- Turn on forwarding. On the left, click:
- Messages: Turn on Forward messages to email.
- Calls: Turn on Get email alerts for missed calls.
- Voicemail: Turn on Get voicemail via email.
Reverify a phone number
- Go to Google Voice.
- At the top right, click Settings .
- Next to the linked number, click Reverify.
- In the ‘Reverify your forwarding number’ window, click Send code. Google Voice sends the code in a text message.
- Do not share the code with other people or sites.
- In the ‘Enter the code that you received’ window, enter the code.
- Click Verify Finish.
Tip: If you don't reverify the number, your other linked numbers will still work.
Change where you receive calls
Important: When you stop forwarding Google Voice calls to a linked number, the linked number isn’t removed from Google Voice.
- Go to Google Voice.
- At the top right, click Settings .
- On the left, click Calls.
- Under ‘Incoming calls’, change where you receive calls:
- Change which devices receive calls: Under ‘My devices’, turn off devices that you don't want to receive calls on.
- Change which linked numbers receive forwarded calls: Under ‘Call forwarding’, turn off any number that you don’t want to forward calls to.
Tip: To route calls from an individual or group to a certain phone number, use custom call forwarding with Google Voice.
Remove a linked number
- Go to Google Voice.
- At the top right, click Settings .
- On the left, click Account.
- Next to your linked number, click Remove Remove.
Use call waiting
In Google Voice, you can have two calls at a time and easily switch between them. When you get a new call, you can:
- Reject the new call.
- Place the current call on hold and answer the new call.
When you're on another call, you can also make a new call. Your current call is put on hold.
