The first payment method that you add to Google Wallet becomes your default method for contactless payments. When you tap and pay in shops or other supported terminals, it's automatically charged.
Find your default payment method
- Open the Google Wallet app .
- At the top, on your payment methods, swipe from the right edge of the screen to the left until you get to the last one.
- Tap 'Edit card order' .
- Your default method has a contactless symbol .
Tip: Cards that can be used for tap and pay, but aren't your default, have a different contactless symbol .
Change your default payment method
- Open the Google Wallet app .
- At the top, on your card, swipe from the right edge of the screen until you find the card that you want to use as your default.
- Tap the card.
- At the bottom, tap Details Make default for pay contactless.
Pay with a different card
You can tap and pay with other cards that aren't your default card.
- Open the Google Wallet app .
- At the top, on your card, swipe from the right edge of the screen to the left until you find the card that you want to use.
- Hold the back of your phone against the payment terminal.
- If prompted, choose 'Credit', no matter what your type of card is.
Fix problems
Default payment method is declined- Contact your bank to check whether there's a problem with your account.
- If your account isn't the problem, contact the retailer for more info.
Check which card you have set as your default. If it isn't the card that you want, update your default payment method or learn how to pay with a different card.
