Installation materials

Low Temperature Warning: We do not recommend installing beacons at temperatures below 12°C (53°F); if you choose to install beacons at such temperatures (or lower), you may need to heat the surface and/or use MEK / Acetone. Acetone is more effective than IPA at removing moisture at low temperatures but requires safety precautions.

Please see the recommended materials for each type of wall surface, and follow the installation instructions.

Concrete wall

Required materials:

  • 70% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)
  • Clean non-dyed cloth
  • 3M Clean and Strip Disc CR-DA (black disc) 4.5 inch / Metal Brush
  • 3M 80 Spray Adhesive
 

Installation steps:

  1. Clean the wall with 70% IPA + 3M Clean and Strip Disc.

  2. Remove dust and soot with the clean cloth.

  3. Apply 3M 80 Spray Adhesive and wait 1 minute for the spray to dry.

  4. Remove the Beacon’s tape adhesive liner.

  5. Install the Beacon where you applied the spray (ensure the logo is facing oncoming traffic and that the Beacon appears leveled).

  6. Push the Beacon firmly against the wall for 6 seconds.

Note: For concrete in bad condition, apply Concrete Repair DP600 first to damaged areas

Ceramic tiles / Glass

Required materials:

  • 70% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)
  • Clean non-dyed cloth
  • 3M Primer 94
 

Installation steps:

  1. Clean the wall with 70% IPA.

  2. Remove dust and soot with the clean cloth.

  3. Apply 3M Primer 94 and immediately wipe with a dry clean cloth.

  4. Remove the Beacon’s tape adhesive liner.

  5. Install the Beacon (ensure the logo is facing oncoming traffic and that the Beacon appears leveled).

  6. Push the Beacon firmly against the wall for 6 seconds.

Metal / Steel surface

Clean / Painted metal

Required materials:

  • Clean non-dyed cloth
  • 3M Scotch 7447
  • 3M Primer 111
 

Installation steps:

  1. Carefully rub the surface using 3M 7447 scotch.

  2. Apply Primer 111 (wipe surface).

  3. Remove the Beacon’s tape adhesive liner.

  4. Install the Beacon (ensure the logo is facing oncoming traffic and that the Beacon appears leveled).

  5. Push the Beacon firmly against the wall for 6 seconds.

Corroded metal

Required materials:

  • 70% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)
  • Clean non-dyed cloth
  • 3M Clean and Strip Disc CR-DA (black disc) 4.5 inch / Metal Brush
  • 3M Zinc Spray 16-501 
 

Installation steps:

  1. Use Clean and Strip Disc to completely remove corrosion until you reach bare metal.

  2. Remove dust and soot with the clean cloth.

  3. Clean the surface with 70% IPA.

  4. Apply 3M Zinc Spray 16-501.

  5. Remove the Beacon’s tape adhesive liner.

  6. Install the Beacon where you applied the spray (ensure the logo is facing oncoming traffic and that the Beacon appears leveled).

  7. Push the Beacon firmly against the wall for 6 seconds.

Cable tray

Required materials:

  • Heavy duty zip ties
  • HS-519 Cable Tie Gun Tensioning and Cutting Tool

 

Installation steps:

  1. Place the Beacon on the outer side of the tray / mesh (logo facing traffic).
  2. Use zip ties and cable tie gun to firmly secure the Beacon.
