Use your watch screen & notifications

Sleep or wake up your watch

To turn on the watch after it goes to sleep, do any of the following:

  • Tap the screen.
  • Turn your wrist so your screen is upright.
  • Press any button on the watch.

Put your watch in Sleep Mode

To turn the watch screen back off temporarily, do any of the following:

  • Cover the screen with your hand for a few seconds.
  • Don’t touch your watch and it'll dim automatically after a few seconds.

Check battery status

  1. If your screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. Swipe down from the top of your watch's screen.

Silence notifications, turn off the screen, or go offline

You can temporarily silence your watch, turn off its screen, and take it offline.

  1. If your screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  3. Tap a setting to change it:
    • Airplane mode Airplane mode: Turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data connections.
    • Theater mode Theater mode: Turn off your screen temporarily.
    • Do Not Disturb Do not disturb: Turn notifications off.
    • Sound Sound: Turn off sounds, if your watch has a speaker.

If your watch doesn’t show these options

  1. If your screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Settings Settings, then select an option.

Use apps & voice actions

Use & get apps

You can get apps from your watch using the Play Store app.

Tip: On older watches, apps on your phone that are available on your watch will automatically sync.

Open an app already on your watch

  1. If your screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. To open your list of apps, press the Power button.
  3. Tap the app you want to open.

Get more apps from the Play Store

  1. On your watch, press the Power button.
  2. Open the Play Store Play Store. You'll be signed in to the main Google Account on your watch.
  3. To search for a new app, tap Search Search.
  4. Next to the app you want to get, tap Install.

Use voice actions

  1. Swipe left to right until you find the Assistant screen.
  2. Tap Microphone Speak.
  3. Say your question or task.

If your watch doesn’t show this option

  1. If your screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. Say "Ok Google" or press and hold the Assistant button.
  3. Say your question or task.

Find your contacts

  1. If the screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. Press the Power button.
  3. Scroll and tap Contacts .
  4. Scroll to find your contacts.

Customize the buttons on your watch

If your watch has more than one button, you can change what each button does.

On Wear 3:

  1. If your screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. From the top of the screen, swipe down.
  3. Tap Settings Settings and then Advanced features and then Customize keys.
  4. Choose the button you want to change.
  5. Select an app.

On Wear 2:

  1. If your screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. From the top of the screen, swipe down.
  3. Tap Settings Settings and then Personalization Personalization and then Customize hardware buttons.
  4. Choose the button you want to change.
  5. Select an app.
